Hi there,
I am raising 20 khaki Campbell ducks for the first time. They are 5 weeks old. One of them has been a little weaker than the others since we got them. She favors her left foot and it has never seemed to full open. In addition, the feathers on her back seem to be delayed and they have a ratty look that shows white and red scabby skin underneath and her breast seems to drop when she walks.

any thoughts or suggestions will be appreciated.

Probably didnt Develop right when she was In the egg. Keep an eye on her, if she gets worse than you might need to isolate her from the flock so she doesn’t call attention to herself and get picked on,

:welcome It does sound like something isn’t right can you post a video or pictures of her to post a video you will have to put it on Vimeo or you tube then copy an paste here. Please tell us their living arrangements and what your feeding, including supplements and have you noticed any one pecking this area on her back?

Many thanks to all of you for your help. Right now they are still in the brooder inside at night and in a fenced in yard with a small homemade pond during the day. They are right outside my quarantine office window so I can keep an eye on them. We also have a couple of pans of water for them that we change every hour. We feed them blue seal multiflock crumbles that we mix with nutritional yeast and they also seem to be eating the grass and digging for slugs. I have just started giving them the occasional "salad scraps" like lettuce, pea pods and other greens. I should add that we did notice the limp and general lethargy/weakness compared to the others on the day we brought them home. When they were about a week old we would let her and another duck or two swim in the bathtub thinking that would take the pressure off the foot. As far as I can tell, the other ducks are kind to her. None seem to be pecking on her - and there are a couple that seem to look out for her and sit with her when she sits to rest. I will work on getting a video today.

Here is the photo of her. I do think that the issue with her foot is a birth defect. It is smaller and narrower than her other foot. It is kind of hard to see, but it shows the white skin under her wing where there aren't any feathers growing. Her wing feathers look a little shaggy too. I have one more with the same issue on her back.

From all I’ve heard an read fluctuations during incubation can cause birth defects. Is she able to get around okay on her foot? You’ve checked them over real good for parasites? And no one is picking on the two with feathers missing? Have you put anything on these areas?
