Liquid Corid dose for Goats?

https://www.backyardherds.com/threads/lets-talk-about-corid-and-cocci.34585/
I thought this was interesting. I am outside on mobile scanning threads w/my BYH account. Have some guests over but I keep sneaking away back by the barn to check on my buddy. I went against Doctors orders and fed him some grain.. Man-o-man he vacuumed it clean.. I feel it is a nutrition factor that has come into play. It was fed in moderation.. didn't fill the bowl. I might use a hoist tomorrow to help him stand for a little bit. Build some muscle that he has lost. Grandson's B-Day Tomorrow as well and a big chicken order to fill... timing is not so good with his special needs. Thx Kathy

The dosage I have for Corid is 6.25cc per 25 pounds body weight for 5 days. I use this in my kids as a preventive, to try and allow them to build up an immunity on their own, while getting support from me to do so. I did once have to treat an adult animal who I got from elsewhere (had her in quarantine, fortunately...) and this worked on her as well.

I do agree that you have to be careful with Corid, weigh the goat (or use a weight tape if appropriate) and do the math carefully. Don't just try and guess the weight; you want to be as accurate as you can. Good luck, I hope your goat is doing much better very soon!

I got this from a site called "Dairy Goat Info" but I think the person who owned it, sold it, and it's either no longer around or totally different now. The owner lived in TX and worked with the guys at TX A&M, having necropsies done, kids worked on, etc. etc. so that the people there would have a chance to see goats in all different stages and know what drugs they had at which dose and so on and so forth. I believe she raised Nubians.

Anyway, they had some charts and so on, which I printed out at the time. That's where I got my info. None of my vets know enough about goats, alas, for me to trust them with them. They are darn good with cattle, and can do small animals to beat the band, but goats are not in their reach. I've had to use the internet. I will say I've been very successful, though... ever since I started doing cocci prevention in my kids, they've had excellent growth and health. My adults have all acquired good immunity to cocci. I show, so all that matters to me.

Interesting that you find the dose high. Perhaps this is a case of "this works for me on my farm, but may not work for you on yours" but I did feel the source was reliable.

I find the dose high because it's so much higher than anything else I found. It would be like me telling people to use 50 ml per gallon when treating chickens.

Maybe it is okay, but I sure would want to get the okay from a vet before I used that much.

I'll look in my Plumb's veterinary drug handbook later and see what it says.
