Liquid in the air cell

I have an egg should be on day 18/19 I THINK. It was under the hen and she had been stealing eggs. I locked her up a week ago with her nest. I took the egg and candled it....and had been keeping an eye on it for a while because it looked like two yolks in it. Well, now there is liquid in the air cell when tilted...couldn't see movement till just a minute ago. Embryo seems way smaller than 18 or 19 days. Is this egg doomed? Has anyone experienced this?

If it is way behind the other eggs, and you don't have another broody or an incubator, yes it is doomed. After the first couple chicks hatch, the broody will abandon the nest.

I put it in the incubator with some other eggs....I have just never seen liquid in the air cell before on an egg. It seems to be way behind all my other eggs.

Sorry but you need to toss it. Liquid moving like water it's a quitter .

Even with an embryo moving in there? Just making sure before we toss it out. Do we just throw it away while its still alive?

If the aircells is busted, the chick will not be able to pip or hatch. They will most likely not be viable anymore. Look carefully to make sure there is no movement. Never throw out a live chick.

There is lots of movement in the egg. That's why I hesitate to throw it out. Very active embryo or embryos

Hmm, you might as well give it a chance, since there is so much movement. After all, even if it has a very slim chance of hatching, it's better than the chance it would have if you threw it out. However, I would keep a close eye on it, since you don't want to keep any eggs that aren't going to hatch in the incubator, because of the risk of rotting and exploding.

So far the embryo or embryos are still alive and moving like crazy, air cell is getting bigger. I am watching them VERY closely.
