Duchess, may she rest in peace, was my namesake. Jane was Lizzy's sister and the day she was taken by dogs was a traumatic day for us all. Solo was our most evil rooster, a little devil of a Golden Sebright. Silver, a Silver Sebright, was fairly sweet and was the only chicken who ever ate ants. Speckle is quite distinguishable from the other Mile Fleur D'Uccles by her white head. Marmalade was a little Belgian Quail D'Anvre who loved to eat out of my hand. Bits, who was formerly called Baldy because of the feathers missing from her back and neck, had to be renamed when the feathers grew back...

So many stories to each of these chickens! I love [most of them] with all my heart! (With an exception of our evil roosters - Solo, Hitler, Stalin, and Robes-Pierre - of course.)

Great list!

Maran Rooster: Cuckoo Roo
Maran Hen: Maranda

Delaware Rooster: Pickles
Delaware Hen: Lemonade

BWC Polish Rooster: Black Jack
BWC Polish Girls: Cali and Flower

Yard chickens: Marmalade, Little Red, Splash, Cheetah, Gazelle

A few years back I hatched out 9 chicks. At the time Star Trek Voyager was big with the "7 of 9" borg so when I put the leg bands on I used 1 through 9 and went with the naming convention of just that: 1 of 9, 2 of 9, etc. Worked out great.

I have only named 4 of the 9 I have. They are all 4 weeks old.

"Gimp", a Black Australorp hen....she has major cross beak.
"Darla", a RIR
"Grace", a RIR
"Sara", a Buff O

I have another RIR, and 4 other Black Australorps that haven't really stood out to me to give them names.

White Crested Polish:
Roo - Rod Stewart
Hens - Patti LaBelle and Miss Thang

Meeters of Untimely Deaths:
Hitler, Evil Bob, Satan and Lucifer

I am Italian so alot of my hens have Italian names, But my silkie hens are named after my sister-in-laws by hair color. Arlene (black hair, black silkie), Connie ( salt and pepper hair, splash silkie) Gloria ( blonde hair, buff silkie) and Julia (brown hair, white silkie) Julia thinks she is an angel so she wanted the white one named after her....oh brother !

Our rooster is named Moses, and our girls are all named for Old Testament ladies (pairs are the same breed): Ruth & Naomi, Mary & Martha, Jezebel, Bathsheba, Rebecca, Esther, Drusilla, Sarah, etc. Significant reservoir of unused names for future additions! And Moses does, in fact, lead his people - across the road, under the bushes, etc.
