little giant 9300

Well... after 2 power outages for at least one hour each. Last one 2 days before hatch day. They are starting. One is out.. One is pipped and mostly zipped. and one is just pipped. A couple more look like bare "maybes".. And my 2 "supposedly" accurate thermometers lying about 1 1/2 degrees low (bator sitting on 98 degrees only but really steady!) for the first 2 weeks. The chicks are hatching. Had 4 out of 12 of these new pullet eggs not fertile.. culled 5 total up to lockdown. Culled 2 more with a water movement test this morning cuz of them being a day plus late..5 was bobbing still! so I put them back in and I guess them chik's are tougher then a person would think. Waiting for the second to finish zipping and the 3rd one to start from a pip already.. This whole incubation was just to see of the new rooster and new pullets were a fertile combination... guess so.

Next spring will have better sized eggs cuz these were all just small to medium sizes..but definitely viable! And this little loudly cheepin joker still had a piece of shell still stuck to the back of it's head. It's off now since the little bugger dried off good.

congrats to you! Sounds like a very fertile combination. Did you do anything to compensate for the power outages? Ours has flickered but no outages.

Only thing I did was keep the faith and jack up the temp close to a degree and a half last week and let them go into the second day after when they "should" have started...my fault mostly cuz I just trusted the 2 thermometers that last hatch really stayed accurate. And plus the 2 power outages.. They are into almost a day and a half late now. Probably still shaking with cold? not..lol
But...I'll take what I can get...lol I'm probably going to give these away (if I can) cuz I don't have a new coop/pen ready for the remaining 9 remaining littles (one a possum got

) that are about 8 weeks old now. And I am going to only use the closer to the house "little" coop and pen for putting littles outside. Need to build another coop and big pen for the existing littles and maybe by next Feb/March the pullets will be laying bigger better eggs to hatch. Should have the wanna-be/clone sportsman sized cabinet incubator running easily by then too.. Just waiting for the mail to deliver the heating element now..

What day is it now? Without adding water, what is your humidity? I use an older version of the same incubator, and I added a small computer fan and that keeps the temps uniform. I'll try to post some pics of egg candling, I have some eggs that are going into lock-down today. This is the fan that I added, and this is the best thermometer/hygrometer that I have used, and I have used a lot.

Stand by for pics...

Do you happen to know fan dimensions???

Thanks

Why I love/hate this incubator. The digital reads 103.5 because 4 other thermometer/hygrometers says it's a liar and only 98-100 degrees. My brand new one, very steady on the temp inside. Go figure. They're sitting right next to each other no less. Once you figure out their quirks they're okay for the cost. I'm just dreaming of the day I have $$ to blow on an Rcom, Brinsea, or maybe even a cabinet.

I've got duck eggs in now. Two hatched yesterday (day 26) I'm not going to blame the incubator though because I have three mercury thermometers. I don't even look at the hygrometer on the unit anymore. I have three digital for that. I hear ya about the dreaming. I want to get a Genesis Hovabator and then upgrade to Brinsea.

How do I reset the thermometer on this thing? I've read it's possible on other incubators, I'm just hoping I can on this since its 5 degrees off now.
