Hi! This might be a silly question. Quick background: I'm a (very) new hen mom and have been doing all the research and right (to me!) things. Anyway, picked up my little baby banties today from the post office--legit drove like Cruella DeVille to get them, I was so excited--and so far everyone is doing great! Knocking on all the wood...

My buff brahma is doing super, but I noticed she has a little, thingymabob(?) on the tip of her beak. It almost looks flush with the rest but its slightly raised. Is this a normal chick thing that I'm just not aware of? Or something to be concerned about? Just being extra cautious.

Can't want to get more active in this community and continue on my crazy chicken lady journey! 💚

Hi! That is called an egg tooth! It's nothing to be worried about! 😊 That is what all chicks use to make a pip and to crack out of their egg shell. It will fall off very soon!😉
That was my instinct! Shoulda went with my gut but I've learned to ask-ask-ask away! :) What was weird is she is the largest and likely the "oldest" (we are probably talking hours maybe a day or two) and she is the only one still with it. Thank you, LBB!
