Live chick in trouble - graphic pics - help!

Not sure what it is considered, honestly... it was about 75 dollars, I think - or the pound equivalent. The bator seemed to do a good job - I think either I jumped the gun or the chick is developmentally disabled.

you probably jumped the gun, we have all done it

mine was a big mess...didn't realize they could take well over 24 hours after pip.....

I think I would cull him hun. I'm sorry but I just don't see how he is going to absorb all of that yolk and he looks just off development wise.
Even if he doesn't look to be in any pain why make him wait to die if it's inevitable?

I just went through a very painful duck hatch a little over a week ago. I had to cull three ducklings who were very deformed. It was heartbreaking but I did it for them.

(((BIG Hugs to you)))

I agree, if he doesn't seem to be hurting I would just wait it out. I have seen some pretty strange stuff with chickens and you just never know. Sometimes they do just develop slower. I have one in right now that looks to be a couple of days behind the others when I candle. Don't feel bad though, we all learn from our experiences. I have certainly made some poor choices when incubating babies.

I am going to go to bed - will be back up in a few hours to make sure he is moist and watered (feeding him a bit of water through a child's medicine dropper). Will update then if there are any changes.

Thanks, all - you all are helping me a LOT.

With the call ducklings you often have to help...in the future never take off the bottom of the shell. The most i do is the top where the air cell is, if they have been trying for about 24hrs...as long as they can breathe that's usually where i stop...

I really hope he makes it, but you have to remember a chicken lays an egg a day for a reason...they don't all make it! Otherwise we'd be overrun! I know it's hard though when it's yours...

With only the two.. I completely understand why you tried to help it... you can't beat yourself up for that... you certainly had the best of intentions

It's possible that there is a problem that we just can't know other than it's inability to do what it needs to. All you can do now is give it time and see what happens.

Try to be patient its hard when you try to help something and things go bad the only thing I can do is wish you good luck I've never hatched a chick in my life so I don't know what to do. Once again I wish you and the chick good luck.
