local wild rooster shot and killed :(

Lazy J Farms Feed & Hay :

Like it or not, in the civilized, First World free ranging livestock in the streets is not acceptable. Sue's statement was one of FACT regarding the third world.

Jim

Well, yeah. She said this is not a third world country. And that's a fact. Doesn't maker her brilliant. But just because chickens loitering or meandering in the streets is not acceptable to the shooter, or to Sue, or to you does not make it unacceptable to everyone else. So part two of her statement was OPINION.

He didn't step out his back door and fire his gun. He was in somebody else's yard firing his gun. There's a big difference.

yeah in my state the yard's owner could have shot him dead no question asked! I would have, someone in MY yard firing a gun, yeah i think i would have shot back!

What is worst, a crowing rooster or some idotic dolt firing a .45? Those bullets keep on going until they hit something pretty solid, be it someones car, little kid, air conditioning unit, etc. It has been my experience that stray bullets usually hit something you really didn't want shot.

The cops should have arrested the jerk and confiscated the weapon. Yes, he has the right to keep weapons, but when he fires it on someone else's property within a residential area, he is a public menace.

And for what it is worth, I love feral chickens. A friend writes me that it is now illegal to own a chicken in Cuba. All chickens must be owned by a coopertiva. Who would have thought that the feral chicken would be the ultimate counter revolutionary?

I reread the article... upgraded to a handgun... what an idiot. I would think that repeatedly shooting at an animal with a bb gun and then a handgun would fall under the "mistreatment" part of city ordinances protecting all small animals within town.

There are indeed two parts to this story. I in no way condone that man's actions.

The article said the man had been asking who the bird belonged to, so obviously the bird was getting on his nerves. Still no reason to go on a shooting rampage. The man should have instead called the local animal control and if that didn't work set up traps. I can see how a rooster wandering through the neighborhood can be a nuisance, but if you live in the country or any rural areas a rooster's crows SHOULD be expected and accepted.

The owner of the birds should have contained them, especially if there was even a single person in the neighborhood that took a disliking to them. Now, if the birds ONLY free-ranged on the owner's property then this should not have happened.

Now, this opinion is formed by what the media gave me(we all know how accurate the media is

).

I personally would prefer a ferel rooster or two instead of a man running around CHASING a rooster. LOL

The man should be charged with ill-use of the weapon. I for sure don't want some guy shooting a rooster off of my roof! He has the right to have and fire the weapon, but not if the target is sitting on my roof.

Just decided to look for an update on this case, and according to our county criminal records, he was charged with animal cruently and discharging a weapon in public, with a pretrial hearing set at the end of the month, yea!! So glad something is being done about it! I'll try to update again if I find more info. I haven't seen any other news coverage of it, but I could have missed something.

Peace

What breed of chicken was this? If this breed was on the endangered species list
