Quail Lady & JJ both sell eggs. I dunno who else. The photos I've posted are from QuailLady's rare assortment (I asked her to mix it up a bit beyond what's posted on her page, even if it meant putting in some cheaper eggs into the bunch). The one "wild" colored chick is from my own eggs. He's smaller than the rest of them.

You know what's funny about this little batch of birds?

The first two that hatched were both the same color. The next two that hatched were the same color. But, they are just different enough that I can tell them apart from their markings. From the time they've been in the brooder, they have formed "buddy" relationships with each other. The first two that hatched are buddies with each other, even though I had pulled one of those out and put it into the brooder before the 2nd & 3rd one hatched. The 2nd & 3rd ones went into the brooder before the 4th one. (It went in soon after.) The 3rd & 4th one that hatched are also buddies with each other. Then, the two last to go into the brooder -- Boots & Tiny -- both of who struggled at first (but are now strong) are buddies. Tiny SCREAMS if Buddy goes to the opposite end of the brooder and he can't see him. I mean that chick SCREAMS over it. Once he can see Boots he is fine again. They all seem to have their "buddy." I dunno if my others have done this or not. These chicks are different enough from each other that it is noticeable - and has been since the first day.

My poor little babies probably feel ignored. I didn't talk about them much today.

Instead, I actually had to clean house. Then, a nice big bunny rabbit came to live with us and I've been getting him settled into my sunroom. My cats feel a little jealous since it's their favorite part of the house and they are locked out unless supervised.

Ok here are a couple pics of my cuties.

Now I just need some babies with color. The thing I like the most about watching them is they will be running around like crazy and then all of a sudden just fall asleep. That is so cute. I don't like the dead chick postition either, though. Sorry mhwc56. Hopefully you will have better luck next time. And I think you should get some eggs, everyone should have babies.
None of my other eggs hatched and I set them all on the first. I tossed them this morning.
Well have a great day everyone!

Well they have passed the one week mark -- 8 days now. They are now at that awkward stage where they are getting their feathers and look pretty awful.

Still sweet little things, though. I need to start handling them more soon so they will be nice little tame pets for me. I've been preoccupied with helping my new bunny adjust instead of taming the new baby quail.

All 9 are still doing really well. I have removed one of their two lamps now. (It only provided a small area of extra warmth.)
