Log cabins--please post pictures of yours

Here is my rental in western Mass. It is really small... probably about 800 square feet. We've lived here for almost 8 years and have been complaining about the size the whole time, but it is such an adorable little place!

Unfortunately Colorado is not so close to California ... we'd love to spend more time there! Retirement isn't that far off maybe

AmyBella .... wow! Lovely!

Actually KansasEq ... this was our first cabin up there... it was wayyyy old and had gaping holes between the logs and mice everywhere

But it WAS more rustic and I think had much more charm ... my folks decided to move to the "newer" one on the property in the 80's (it was probably 50 years old as opposed to 100). I truly miss this one, which is now torn down

A picture of our Log Cabin that we live in. It is very old, but has been updated, its about 1100 square feet. Big enough for two.
It is made from Western Red Cedar in the Hudson's Bay stockade style (vertical).
The bottom foundation, which you can't see in the picture, is huge river rock boulders. The rock is taken from the creek thats winds thru our property. One side if the house is floor to ceiling leaded stained glass windows. Very old beautiful windows with rondels.
Would love to have a boulder fireplace but the woodstove will do.

Sorry the picture is not good quality.

I actually prefer the look of the more rustic cabins; they are more authentic looking to me. I'd love to see yours.

Amybella, that IS adorable! Wow, I love it!

Hens4fun, I see what you mean. Much more rustic, and I can understand why you miss it. Such a shame you had to tear it down.

Blackbart, that is a cool style! Wow, you get a LOT of snow!

The stockade style is really old. I was told it originated in the Scandinavian countries. You only need one person to build them but two would be better. The Fur trappers used to built allot of them because they are faster to put up and you can use a smaller tree because your going vertical, not horizontal. They used to build allot cord-wood houses too. Those are so cool looking.

That was a freakish snow storm. Buildings collapsed, the city was shut down, they had to truck the piles of snow away, no where to put the huge amount. I think we got a total of four feet.
We live in a banana belt so we hardly ever get snow

Ours isn't actually a log cabin, but it has that look, somewhat rustic. We call it our "Little House on the Prairie" house, but we're among rolling hills rather than a prairie. My husband built it himself (I get credit for manual labor). The loft floor, inside and outside window and door trim, and the siding boards and battens all came from trees on our property. It's not a big house, but it's tight and cozy.

Teach1--you built that yourselves?? Wow! I'm impressed. Very barn/rustic looking. I"ve also thought it would be cool to live in a renovated barn.

Haha...funny you should say that!! Earlier in his life, my DH was caretaker of a property that included a renovated barn!!! He loved that place, and that's where he got the idea for this house! And thank you. We don't ever, never, ever want to go through that again...lol. It was a testament to our marriage...

*Edited to add...we did pay someone to do the drywall finishing (to cover our not so perfect drywall hanging attempts...lol) and to do the chimney stonework...
