What's happening in England is not resistance; it is idiocy. People are rioting for the sake of rioting - or they're rioting from envy. One girl (drinking a bottle of stolen wine) said that it's "to show the police that we can do what we want to," and responded "to show the rich people we can do it" when asked why they targeted local businesses. What a load of morons.
I respect those shopkeepers who have taken up arms - albeit with baseball bats rather than true defensive tools - and banded together to beat the living crap out of the rioters who would loot their shops. The rioters are cowards and idiots. The defending shopkeepers are the heroes in my book.
Thats my point. No one got organized to adress the problems in those slummy places and this riot, will not be sustainred and no change will occur.

I don't want to hijack this thread but want to point out that the Philadelphia Phillies currently have the best record in MLB. Is there another team called the Phillies that the Dodgers play? Maybe little league?

The small township I lived in in WI had no standing police force and due to a dispute with the county, the sheriffs dept. would not render mutual aid off a county road. They simply resurrected an ordinance from the heydays of bootlegging in the '20s and instituted a town posse. Every upstanding citizen who owned property was required to respond if called. Active members were required to keep a rifle or shotgun, 2 days food and 40 rounds of ammo ready for service. One night I got called up to look for an escaped prisoner from the town lockup. He assaulted and injured the constable while escaping and stole his sidearm. I was the most firearms savvy member and was issued a Browning Automatic Rifle from the 30's they had stored in the town hall when we surrounded the house he was holed up in! Fortunately for him he surrendered peacefully. Lots of small towns have dozens of potential deputys in their citizenry. They own rifles already and know how to use them. I think any rioting would be confined to major cities.
