Lonesome no more...

I would wait and find another girl. It's really hard on them to have babies over and over again and the females can get pregnant the day they give birth so for the health of the girl you'd have to seperate the male frequently and keep them apart to give her a a rest. Then you just have 2 lonely guinea pigs again. There are also sometimes adult guinea pigs in shelters if you call and ask. They shelters here rarely list them anywhere but sometimes have a few in their small pet room if you ask about it. It's only $10 to adopt a guinea pig here.

If you think there is any possibility that she's preggo, you can weigh her on a daily basis ..or weekly, at first... and see if there's any remarkable weight gain. (or you could go to your Small Animals Vet and get an ultrasound.. but it may be expensive)

Personally, I'd get her home and get her settled in ...weigh her and watch her overall appearance. (Of course, I didn't notice how large J.R. was getting until about 3 weeks before she delivered ...I thought she was just getting fat from all the yummy hay and salads, etc.) If you find another female, get her too. The little one needs company.

If the original one is preggo, you can always adopt them out to other people that would like a pig... especially since it sounds like you live in a "pig dry" area

Ultimately, you would find 2 piggies at a shelter or rescue ..and adopt.. rather than purchase, but it sounds like you have a unique situation there.

Good luck with your pig! Post pics when you can...

Thanks. I do plan on just getting her and then i will wait and find another girl. I think it might be as soon as next week. I did not want to get the boy or boys, i was just telling what my options were. I will post her picture this afternoon. Thanks again.

Lost our darling hairless hamster last week ,old age . She was our 2nd. one . We went to the store to buy my daughter a guinea pig and we saw a naked hamster ready to be snake food over 4 yrs. ago she came home instead, We were hooked. I am just starting to look for another but no luck. the place we got the last one does not carry them anymore and cant see to find one to order. But I have a bator full of chicks hatching I should be content with that.
Guinea pigs rock!!!!

lurky... good luck with your girly! If you have any questions or anything, you are welcome to pm me ..or I can send my email to you. I don't claim to know everything, but I know where to find answers..

Ms. Lewis Rich... I know what you mean about the hairless babies ..no matter what the species... they are just special, somehow. If you are still looking for a hairless hammie, you might check out the GooseMoose portal ..their adoption sections are great resources for new baby anything!

Here she is. I am letting her keep her security box until she is ready to come out

I got her the biggest cage they had.

She is such a DOLL BABY!!!

I hope she isn't preggers ..and she settles in soon. Don't take too terribly long to start getting her used to you.. sitting near her cage and reading or talking to her.. and letting her sniff your hand on her terms ...and so many other things you can do..

If you'd like to get her into a proper cage size without breaking the bank, check out the C'n C cages on that first link I posted. Cubes and Coroplast will cost you about $25 to $35 ..depending on your area ....and you can put everything together in appx. one hour (including cuts and bends, assembly, etc. ) ..and piggies will be oh so thankful for the space to run and kick up heels and have a blast.

It's amazing how much personality they show when they have adequate space to be themselves.

We are planning a C&C exercise pen and my husband can get the coroplast at work for free. (just no pretty colors) She is already getting used to me. Thanks for all your help.
I might have a companion lined up as soon as tomorrow

Ohhh.. that is awesome news!!

Btw.. you can liven up the plain coroplast sheets with stickers! Just make sure they go on before you put piggies in ..as they will be curious, if they see you attaching them ...and make sure they are smoothly applied, so nothing for curious mouths to nibble at.

I have dark green coroplast with black cubes ..and I put tree frog stickers from the $1 store all over it

Do guinea pigs use a litter box like a bunny? I have not seen much about that. Do they pee in a corner like bunnies do?
