Long Distance Friendships :-(

Speaking as someone who moved to California and back: I loved CA while I was there...but I never want to live there again.

It really is hard to maintain a strong long distance friendship, but it is possible. I am still close with many of the friends I had in CA, just like I was with the ones from AL. I'm not as close as I would like to be, but there is still a sense of camaraderie. Do I miss the hanging out and random gabbing sessions at our favorite haunts? You betcha. Is it gone forever? Not til we say it is. I plan on going for a visit next year if everything goes right and enjoy every minute of catching up I can.

Keep your chin up Squishy. If you and Tanya want to make the friendship work, you'll find a way. Just keep on loving and supporting each other.

My car wouldn't start last night, so he had to come pick me up from work at 11pm.
I'm extremely mad about it. The car place wasn't open today, so first thing tomorrow, I'm going to call them.
I'm to the point where I'm going to refuse to pay for them to work on my car. They better fix it. It has been in their shop too many times and hasn't been fixed.
I had a guy come look at my car yesterday (when it was still working) and he noticed some things under the hood that was wrong, which makes me even more mad.
It makes me think that they just weren't being thorough enough, and I'm sick of it.
If they don't want to fix it for free, I'll have it towed home (at their expense) and sell it as is.
I might go tomorrow to go look at some cars, but I'm definitely getting another one.

I've been hard at work trying to keep on top of things which I am successfully doing so far. (I've always been a quick worker.)

Been wondering as to the point of all this school lark a lot recently. I don't see the point of half the things we learn. It's pretty much a waste of time. Why can't they teach us useful things like what's out there in the real world? Nobody really gives a toss about things like.... well, take anything we do in maths!

The only use that stuff is is that if I know it, I win maths competitions, which give me money. (I got a high distinction in a recent one, which I am going to collect the voucher or whatever it is for this Wednesday.)

On Wednesday, I am also heading to a Young Women in Technology day at the Uni - it'll be a good break from school. I get to chill with a bunch of my maths-mates and take on engineering challenges.

Always thought it sounded exciting, engineering.

I dont understand either Flare. Without going into too much detail... It's entirely possible to pass, with a good mark, the high school diploma exam, from what you learn up to 6th grade. It's not even surprising. I think all the extra 'fluff' they insist people learn is aimed for careers as scientists or some other such thing most people aren't interested in.
Mom... way back when... when she was a girl in Australia... they were able to opt out of school classes in favor of appenticing in a career, so they learned what they wanted to do and got their diplomas all in one. Thats how mom became a hairdresser. Of course, over here... America cares diddly about any qualifications from another country.

I cant believe you've been so patient with the garage, Danielle. I would have vented my spleen on them long ago. Things like that only further my certainty that every biusiness out there is only interested in stealing a buck from whomever crosses their path. Including doctors. Government. Mechanics. Tow truck people. Car dealerships. Realtors. Cynical? Who else am I missing?

Yes... thank you for your advice Danielle. I have decided definitely not to get her... but I have offered our help in getting her registration papers properly transferred over to whomever does... as it would be nigh impossible for them to get them from the first owners. Hopefully that will encourage the lady/new owners to keep in touch with us regarding her.. and hopefull increase her value enough that she will be more likely to find a good home. Please keep your fingers crossed for her!

I wouldn't advise the going off to cheaper countries idea. An aquaitance had the same idea and tried to talk mother into it. Perhaps the cost of living is lower, yes... and the American money can stretch a whole lot farther.... but, you make up for that in personal security and other vital concerns.

My father spent his last few years in the Philiphines... and while he wasn't in good health to begin with, We're quite certain thats what finally did him in.
Coming back to the us on the plane (because over there, if you don't have ready *cash* to pay a hospital everyday, they kick you out on the street, dying or not).. he got to the terminal here and collapsed on the gangway. They rushed him off to the hospital, where he spent 2 weeks with the doctors trying to stabilize him... then we finally got him moved down here.. and he went to hospice to die. He had riotous infections... whats that one that is a fairly new thing? H1 something or other? and bites all over him from bed bugs, nevermind the niceness of his accomodations (he sold his house before going over, and I sent him over many grand at the end). But in a country like that, their version of niceness 'living like a king'.. and ours are waaaay different.

So dont go off on some harebrained bf scheme... because what you get for all the money isen't even worth it. Australia or England or Ireland, I think!

Anyway... I thought you wanted to have a farm with me??!!

I have been looking at land in Ocala.....

Oh yes, you use nothing from High School in the real world.

Well, you will use some math, and maybe typing, but honestly as long as you know the basics, you'll be fine.
Most jobs will train you anyways, and if you go onto college, you'll be taught what you need to know for the specific job you're wanting.

I called this morning to talk to the guys at the car garage. I told him that his men were careless and I was NOT happy.
He understood and told me that we could get the car towed back there so they can fix it.
At that point I said, "Well here's the deal, I don't feel like I should have to pay for your men's mistakes. If you're not willing to fix it for free, no matter what the issue is, new or old, then I'm going to get it towed back here at your expense and take it somewhere else."
Then he told me he wanted to make it right and they'd pay for everything. They don't want to lose my business.

I continued to tell him things that made my argument better about how they weren't thorough enough.
There's a clamp that belonged on a hose that was just sitting next to my engine, attached to nothing, and there's an oil leak. Now I may not be a mechanic, but I'm pretty sure it doesn't take a mechanic to see that and know something's wrong.
I reminded him of the time when I first brought the car to them with my alternator problem and let them know that I thought there was a problem with the wires... I was told they were working fine..
Turns out, after my car went through THREE alternators, THREE, they decided to look at the wiring, and guess what? A wire had melted, causing the short.

So like I said, I reminded them when I, the person that knows nothing about cars, told them what was wrong and I was told I was wrong, when actually I was right.
After all of this, they better fix my car for free. I absolutely refuse to pay for his men's guesswork, and he was okay with that.

The employees obviously don't know how to their jobs, and I will never take my car back to them again if they get it working right.

We want to move to the UK, or Alabama.
Why don't you look for places in Alabama with us? It's not far from Florida.

Oh, and I'm sorry you won't be getting your horse.

Then they all jumped down and tried to eat me.
Well.. not really, but they did swarm me and pecked at my hands because they wanted treats.

Haven't really done much today, except go outside and visit my chickens.
Our neighbors or anyone else who's outside who doesn't know me has to think I'm crazy. I go out there talking to them and stuff.

I really want some ice cream. We're out.

I also really want to find a job in another state so we can move.
I know that it's probably unrealistic, but it's what we want to do.
You can't move into a house unless you have a job, and you can't get a job without a house! It's ridiculous!

I guess we'll never be able to move out of state.
