Hello BYC community! Have used this resource for years and today felt like the right day to finally sign up!
Our journey with chicks has been a long and wonderful one. Would take too long to mention all the highs and lows but just wanted to offer that I’m here for continued learning from the BYC pros and also to offer support to anyone new, excited, nervous, about having a backyard flock.

Things we have learned/dealt with so far:
- Having small flock in city limits
- Inheriting mixed flock when we moved to the country
- Predators are real
- Raising a toddler with chickens and all the wonderful life lessons it brings
- Harvesting violent roos and respectfully eating them
- Egg production issues
- Mites
- Wildfire smoke & flock health
- Pets vs livestock
- Natural births and chick care
- Placing hatchery eggs under broody hen
- Taxidermy...yes, our favorite roo “Blue” is with us forever, and makes a great conversation starter
- I promise to post some pics soon but as any homesteader knows, typing this has already used up my free time lol

there is definitely lots to be learned with chickens. Glad you've joined, you'll fit right in
