So these two ducks were raised together and best friends, now that the one duck is gone I am concerned about the other duck. They have been best friends for a year, should I get a couple chicks?

Do you recommend baby ducks or older ones, I am not sure where I would get older ones. She is about a year and a half

I have found older ones really hard to find. You can get babies and try introducing at 3weeks when they are big enough to not get hurt before you can get to them. My single duck took to the 3 week babies right away. All ducks are different though so you will need to supervise and separate if it's not going well.

She will be very happy with some new friends. We had a pair of ducks and lost one as well so she was solo for a bit while we raised new ducklings. I would recommend giving her a mirror for company while she's by herself, our duck used to like to sleep next to it and talk to it quite a bit.
Thats a great idea! I have just the right one.

Ducklings may or may not be able to be integrated until they are close in size to your adult. It could be a slow process. Just something to think about ahead of time. It could be 1-2 months brooding them in your house until old enough to go out and another 1-2 months of see no touch housing before all can peacefully live together.

I agree I was lucky that my adult took to the littles right away. It all depends on the personality. Thanks for adding!

I personally found another adult duck when my drake lost his mate this year. We have a local hatchery close by, so it was a little easier to find one. Check craigslist, lsn, and Facebook for a potential adult duck if you decide to go that avenue! I went the adult duck route because my boy was VERY upset over his loss and I felt so bad for him, he had his new friend 2 days after his mate passed.
