Look what I found in my rabbit pen Jan 2nd!!!!

8 new babies! mom is a big black 1 maned lion head, and dad is a orange/gray dwarf Lionhead

Decided to take a few shots with my phone when I did a quick headcount today to make sure none were dead, all 8 are healthy and alive! Best first time momma bunny ive ever had!

and my fav one "Skunk" came up front for a pic!

I was pretty young when me and my mom bred rabbits, there 4 or 5 days old now, how old do they have to be before they can be handled? open their eyes? or will come out of the nest?

So sweet! I love baby bunnies!
I don't know if it's officially ok, but my brothers and I would always handle the bunnies even before their eyes opened. The funniest thing is when they "popcorn" one jumps, and lands on another, who jumps, sending them all bouncing all over the place.

So that is what new born bunnies look like.

I have 4 rabbits of my own. 3 girls one boy. We have been trying to mate them for 4 months, no babies yet. I have never known rabbits to not multiply until now

( I think our male was a dud, so we brought in a new guy to replace him)
So, at least I can enjoy your babies until mine figure it out

I have brought them in before when temps were low, I actually kept a litter of four in here with me the month of December..They almost froze to death. After they warmed up I would bring mama bunny in and put her in the box to nurse her babies twice a day. After they were fully fluffy and eating pellets and drinking water they moved back in with mama.. She is such a good doe mama that it was a painless thing. Usually it's not that easy lol

Baby rabbits can be handled from day 1. (if, if mom will let you. do nothing that upsets her). We often check doe over (right after birthing, sometimes before she cleans herself up) and do a head count, clean the box of any unwanted "stuff", add extra hair, ect. After the first 24 hrs, I just do a head check ... put the hand into the box and make sure they are still warm, etc. Eyes open in 10-14 days. Eating out with mom sometimes by 3 weeks. New homes not until 8 weeks. They need the social time, just like dogs, for the personalities to come out. We have several show does on litters this very minute and a few more due in the next 8 days.
