ggrrr Bald Eagles !

There are some Eagle cameras set up to view local Eagle nests around here and one day, low and behold, a Eagle flew up with a big red rooster!
Took three days for the parents and three eaglets to consume him.

I'll never forget the day a Eagle flew off with my friend's Pomeranian...........

it was awful, you could see the dog's head moving around as the bird flew off.

One more thing...

It's not just birds of prey that you have to watch for...

I have had problems with crows going into the coop during the day and taking eggs. I have also seen crows carry off chicks that were out with their momma's. Ravens will do the same thing, they are opportunists, so keep them in mind as well, when you think of predatory birds.

Just for info, it is my understanding that if anyone finds out your dog killed the eagle, you can and most likely will be prosecuted. When I was in the Academy we were taught that even if you accidentally kill one in the road with your car you can be prosecuted. It's the National Bird, and is considered to be destroying an American Symbol( I know...sounds harsh).

I would recommend maybe trying to build a covered run area...and if you let them free range, maybe only do it when you will be out there with them=)

Also, if you think about it- the eagle may be just finding an easy meal for a nest of babies=D

Good luck to you!

Im right there with you hun, we have our girls in a temp coop, the new much larger coop is still under construction... "Waiting on the correct length of 2x6's to frame in the run completly."
I have no more than a month to get it completed. I need the older girls out in the new coop so that I can turn the temp coop into the nursery for the new chicks that will arive around the 26th... Must get it done soon. lol

No problem hun. lol

If my coop was built, and I had more than one car, I would drive up and help you out. I love P.A. and have family up in the area. Good luck with your coop, and maby some day we can meet in person.
