I don't know how true this is, but someone told me if you stop and move a turtle off of the road and set him the opposite direction he was going, it takes them a month to get reoriented. . .and I know insects also have trouble getting settled in new territory. . .I have coons in my attic and I decided that they will be leaving here within the month, because for one thing their babies are going to be big enough to be mobile, and another its going to get screamin' hot in there and they won't be able to stand it. THEN DH is going to figure out where the little hole is (it has to be tiny, I have walked around our house for 3 months and cannot see one spot where they could be getting in, and I have a pile of coon poop on my roof, which is so cool . . .we are the only house in our burg with poop on the roof!!!!

) But I see relocating in a whole new light now. Drowning is sorta cruel, but if you aren't a good shot, I think that is worse.

I have no problem shooting a coon. They have wiped me out of chickens in the past. Get a 22 and shoot away . If you relocate you are just giving someone else your problem. When they take out some of your chickens you won't feel so softhearted. Just my opinion. not worth much .

My husband has a bunch of gguns, what the heck does a .22 really look like. I only know what he tells me. I wouldn't even know which bullets go in where? I know bad, but I am scared of guns!

In my opinion, what is kindest, and most humane is what is quickest. There are many ways to kill something, but whatever ends the animal's suffering (and terror is a kind of suffering) the fastest is best. In my opinion, shooting is the most humane, because it is over so quickly. I have read a lot about the methods of animal euthanasia, and what I have learned is that unless the animal is rendered instantly dead/unconcious, that the animals brain waves are comparable to the patterns of humans undergoing pain, fear, etc., In one study I read, they found that the only way to avoid the pattern of brain waves reflecting the pain/fear parts of the brain was instant deaths that caused destruction of the brain/unconciousness. All of my inquiries have led me to conclude that when dispatching an animal, to avoid unessesary suffering, you should opt for the quickest method if possible.

Tie a rope to the cage and throw it into the lake and walk away...problem resolved...end of discussion.Have Hubby clean out cage. Reset trap tonight...you will catch more. Bullets cost $...the lake is free. Its a raccoon folks!

sorry i didnt mean it the way it sounded i meant he was just looking for food...sorry it was your chicken i would be upset also!

I can't describe a 22 but I'd get my husband to put one in a place (safe) with the bullets nearby and show you how to load it so if this happens again you will be ready. There are 22 rifles and pistols and they have many varieties of each.
