Look who arrived today!

LOL, We experiment with the idea of making our own beer...Just to try it out. I make everything from my laundry detergent, lotions, shampoos, soaps, I cook a lot etc,.. So making things are NOT out of the realm for us but I'm sure it wouldn't be as good as someone with experience! We seen those make your own beer kits at sears I think it was and I just had a feeling it wouldn't be anything amazing & probably better off going to just buy a pack of something. I have one every now and again, but I'm not hooked on the idea I suppose, I won't even finish a can really. I just like a few tastes and I'm done! lol Now give me some loose leaf tea from teavana or adagio and I'm thriled! :)

I would be interested to know how you make the beer though? What supplies you have to have? Just for curiosity?

ETA: Your chicks look so tiny and cute out in the garden! Do they come to you or show any sort of interest in you guys?

Oh, we could have a looong conversation about homebrewing. Since I've been doing it so long, I've grown from a simple stove top, low $$ setup to an advanced 3tier brew cart setup in the garage and I keg most of it, but bottle certain types. It's an obsession. I LOVE good beer.

One of the chicks insisted on perching on my shoe while I sat there. They typically try to dodge us when we reach into the brooder. They love to be held close to the chest though.

She didn't make it. She died in our hands.

So sorry! We got our first flock several months ago and while all the chicks made it, I had one of my ducklings die in my arms on the first day. So sad... My daughter was sad too. Now they are all a little over 4 months and everyone else is doing great. It's so much fun to watch their personalities develop.

We handled ours a lot while they were little. Sometimes we (myself, my daughter and 1 of my boys) would take a single chick out, wrap it in a warm washcloth and hold it in our laps while watching movies, working on the computer, etc. We would spend a lot of time around them while we let them out to run around, etc. To this day, they are super friendly and will jump into our laps when we go into the coop. One of them likes to sit and be pet and will fall asleep right there.

Thanks to everyone. It was sad losing The Hobbit, but we are concentrating on the others. Circle of life and all that. We buried her in a corner of the garden.

Enjoy the videos!

Chicken Nuggets lol!
They are adorable and wow they are quick little suckers aren't they! lol
They look so happy and content and really aren't paying much mind to you either. It is amazing watching baby chicks peck around and explore something new! Thanks for sharing those vids, I got a laugh out of watching them. :)

And I may take you up on the convo on homebrewing.

Our dog is a Boxer/Ridgeback mix. She typically eats anything that moves in the backyard. Rabbits, doves, lizards, packrats, bees....nothing is too fast to escape her and she's 10 now. You should have seen her a few years back. We have to be very watchful with her and the chicks. She is very interested in them.
On the brew, just let me know.
