Having culinary interest is fine, being interested in their looks is fine. What I mean is they have enough value to you thay you invest such that they are likely to carry on after you. It is kind of like raising kids where you want them to persist after they leave the nest.I don't need these ones for culinary reasons. I just want nice looking birds for this go around. Though I'm rather confused what all you mean by maintaining our quality of life. But maybe that's all just too complicated for me.
On another hand, I checked out the mosaic post made a few pages ago now. Their birds do look nice, so I'll mark them down on my list so I remember to look them up when I'm ordering eggs and chicks.
Sorry I’m being dramatic. Mosaics are a waste of money and they are mutts. You could produce the same effect with a Cemani and a barnyard chicken. What?
^^^Check out the CAMPINE CHICKEN , It's beautiful and on the Critical list with the Livestock Conservancy.
I agree. While I hope Jacin Larkwell doesn’t fall for the Mosaic trick, there’s nothing wrong with getting pretty birds as yard pets.I’m confused what any of this has to do with the OP or her question though. Not everyone wants to breed chickens or “continue their line” or whatever. For those that do, that’s fine. But there’s also nothing wrong with having a few backyard hens for eggs or a few pretty pets or whatever. Everyone has different goals and one is not better than the other or wrong. Some people can’t even have roosters where they live so then should they not have any chickens at all just because they can’t breed them? I really do not understand this logic that if you’re not breeding then you shouldn’t have them.![]()
Yeah, I don’t think she should get the Mosaics but I fail to see how her question about what breeds to get turned into she’s going to dump them because she wants pretty birdsI agree. I did not say should not have them, rather give process more thought. There are folks that do think like you assumed was my logic. They will be the ones ultimately challenging your ability, and mine to keep chickens.I’m confused what any of this has to do with the OP or her question though.
