I am so sorry for anyone going through this situation. When an outbreak like this happens it should be handled as soon as possible, not when every bird owner in the area has to euthanize their flock!

As to the certain someone who has replied some rude things, everyone would appreciate it if you would stop. It's a hard time for everyone in that area and it's not time for you to pop up with your consent rudeness. Worry about your own flock and stop behaving like a child.

I hope everyone gets to at the very least rebuild their flock soon! I feel for you guys and wish for the best!

Scary thing is that people don’t want their birds killed so they rehome the birds to someone else because they are healthy and in saving their birds put others at risk

There was an outbreak of the disease 15 years ago and about 3 million chickens were killed/euthanized....... I wonder how long will it take for the affected counties to allow chicken keeping again? I want them to nip it in the bud this time around once and for all!

So do they euthanize even if they aren't infected?

From speaking with my friend at the USDA who was in California going door to door for 3 weeks when the disease first broke out, birds that test negative for New Castles disease are not euthanized, birds that test positive for New Castles or show signs of having the disease are humanely euthanized. If a USDA worker comes across birds showing symptoms of disease while going door to door they are finished for the day, even if this was the first house they went to.

Did you see the updated release dated yesterday?
It says even birds that have previously tested negative are required to be euthanized now.
