LOS ANGELES county CA under bird quarantine :(

I too, am outside the zone, but have seen a similar thing happen with citrus canker in Florida. People were going crazy about orange trees. Lawsuits and the whole nine yards. Commercial growers licked their wounds and replanted, but the backyard tree owners went nutz.

In the end, it didn't matter because greening (a different disease) has killed off any possibility of growing citrus.

I would like to know that the government is directing proportionate resources on curtailing those activities, so that the sacrifices people are making with their own flocks to maintain the quarantine will not have been for naught.

Not going to happen. They don't care about private chicken owners. Their only concern is the poultry industry. That much should be obvious.

Here is another voice from the zone. Regardless of how ppl feel about the mandatory euth zones, or even about Kerri Hand, this person has several points about how the WAY they've been doing it is unnecessary regardless of how we feel on the above. Her points have been substantiated on the live videos.

We've been waiting for the CDFA representatives to come and slaughter my girls. On 5/14 I received notice that we are under quarantine and they would be back on or before 5/24 at 6pm. They have yet to come back. It's both a blessing and a curse. I'm beyond thrilled that the girls haven't been inhumanely killed at the hands of these careless compassion-lacking temp workers. However, I'm thrilled that I still have them. The anxiety of waiting for your home to be raided is overwhelming. I have been in a depression knowing not only am I going to lose my girls, but it's going to be at the hands of untrained killers. I know my girls are going to suffer with pain and fear.

The CDFA stated that the individuals doing the humane euthanasia were wildlife biologists that would practice biosecurity measures. Nothing could be further from the truth. A worker spoke to a resident and told them they got two days training. In those two days I guess they taught them how to use a rifle, air soft guns, gas to kill the birds, sanitation/disinfection, and biosecurity protocol.

Allow me to tell you the truth:
• Riverside county sheriff's and local police have been advised not to respond to ANY calls regarding the issue.
• CHP out of San Bernardino has been contracted by CDFA/USDA to provide security - against the residents and community members.
• Not one person who has had their birds killed has seen a positive test in Southern California. Most backyard birds killed haven't even been tested.
• The concerned bird owners cannot get return calls or emails from CDFA, local and state government officials, or Chad Bianco our Riverside County Sheriff.
• Biosecurity measures are NOT being taken.
• The birds are not being humanely euthanized. Some are being tortured by being shot (but not killed), breaking their necks, standing & bouncing on the neck, & even gassed to the point of sleeping only to wake up in plastic bags and left to suffocate.
• Homeowner's are not allowed to have a neighbor present to support them or translate for them. They are forcing non English speaking & elderly people to sign legal documents that they can not read or do not understand. As of today, June 15,2019 the homeowners were told that they may have a support person with them, however if they choose to have it they will NOT be paid the indemnity.
• No one from USDA, CDFA, CHP or any other person at the kill will provide ID. In essence properties are being raided, homeowners are being sequestered from supporters, & we've seen sudden theft activities on property owned by the most active supporters of the SOB save our birds fb group. They can't even file a police report because no one will respond to take one.
• The birds are being disposed of at local dumps. Bags are ripped open & wild animals are eating the dead birds. In previous outbreaks they buried the birds 6' under. In actuality the birds should be hauled by a person licensed to haul dead animals and go to a rendering facility.

The laws that are being broken by different entities are numerous. Unfortunately, no one seems to be held accountable ...

There is no treatment and no cure

Yet poultry in Mexico is immune to this bug. Sounds like we need immunity, not eradication, which is a myth anyway - you can never eradicate a virus. The most sensible, humane approach would be for the poultry industry to develop immunity in their flocks so we don't have to go through this madness. But they don't want that because it would cost time, effort and money, so they pass that externality on to the taxpayers who have to pay millions of dollars for these eradication programs.

I'm starting wonder at what the sources are for some of the things being reported. In particular, I find it hard to believe that the CDFA is preventing people from having a neighbor or friend present when their chickens are being killed. How can they possibly enforce that? I'm all for bringing things to light, but I'm starting to question some of these claims.

They won’t allow a neighbor to come onto the property once they arrive to euthanize kill the poultry on the property. I assume anyone trying to enter the property once CDFA and the law enforcement show up will be detained or threatened with obstruction of justice.

Kerri was with the person and got told by them to leave so that they could be paid. She in fact left. It's on live video. Also on live video is another homeowner asking CDFA for a copy of indemnity paperwork so she could review it with her lawyer. The male CDFA rep got verbally threatening with the homeowner until his associate called him off. There is no need for that. If anyone is uncomfortable signing anything, they should be given time to review it. If CDFA is uncomfortable as Kerri was there, mail them the paperwork.

Not exactly... I think that the Mexicans are just living with it. So if 2,000, 000 birds catch it, que sera sera. Hatch another 2,000,000 and carry on.

There's no immunity there, just resilience.
