"Thanks to cooperation from Southern California residents in very difficult circumstances, and a tremendous commitment from emergency response teams, the joint CDFA/USDA Virulent Newcastle Disease Project has found no new positive detections of the disease since June 4, 2019."

I have my fingers crossed no new cases are found! I want this quarantine over ToT

Does anybody know if pigeons are covered under the quarantine? I know ducks and turkeys are
ALL birds...
Pigeons included.

The last detected was June 4. As of July 4, CDFA has told residents that they would be testing only. Yesterday, a CDFA crew showed up at a residence outside of the city of Riverside and told the homeowners that the whole crew would have to be let inside to test--despite allowing other homeowners to bring birds to the gate themselves for test. When inside, they stepped on two two-day old ducklings. One died. The other is pictured below. They claimed it was just "human error." It resulted in this:

This duckling was still alive yesterday. Due to quarantine, the homeowners cannot move it including to an avian vet.

As you said, Animalfisherwoman, the last detected case was June 4. This is a major encouragement for those of us facing the threat of this terrible virus. It's also a pretty good indicator that, sad it as the execution may have been, the efforts of the CDFA and USDA have been effective. I'm going to say that again: since they got funding and mobilized they've brought this disease to a standstill. They have been effective.

In her last statement the state veterinarian said that sites of previous contamination will continue to be monitored and tested and the euthanasia program is still in effect. There's residual active virus even after birds have been eliminated. I think the CDFA and USDA are showing diligence and commitment to the health of poultry and bird populations statewide. I applaud them and the difference they've made.

I know we've seen this from different perspectives all along but I think there are people who are more invested in personal loss and potential personal loss than the progress that's protected far more bird owners and flocks.

Annette Jones is responsible for the CDFA, correct?
I think she is responsible TO the CDFA, as they most likely hired her. The CDFA is a large bureaucracy with many departments concerning agriculture. Animals are just one division of it. All part of "big government". 9 most terrifying words in the English language? "I'm from the government and I'm here to help." (Ronald Reagan). Certainly applies to this situation.
