whats permethrin? i have DE, could i dust them gently with that? Ive sprayed Total mite kill on the surface around where id stored them for the 24 hours, thinking any that crawl off to hide will be killed and up above someone suggested i swap out towels, might try tag team it with hopefully a dusting of something so kill anything. I dont want to have mites hatch in my incubator but i dont want to compromise the eggs either.Good grief! Dust with Permethrin?
Thank you, i will def update...quail are a whole new challenge it seems. So far ive been lucky, id say 85% since i bought a brinsea and with chickens only 1 loss next day - my 1 and only FCM which had a saddlebag air cell from going through the post. The air cell took up a huge amount of space and so didnt develop properly. It was really small and hatched with it yolk sac still sticking out the back of it. it didnt make the night. All other chicks are hatched healthy and thrived. Bulbs have never been a problem and theyve all feathered as expected. I have 2 batches still inside, 1of which needs introducing to my outside flock from this week (brahmas are 6 weeks but 1 or 2 havent fully feathered yet - look like males. but Cream legbars and cheshire blue have fully feathered) The quail had lower hatch rates as i dont think they fair as well through the post so quite a few either didnt develop or were early quitters and then clearly non of the 7 that hatched made it after 2 weeks but im putting down to wrong feed and equipment mishap. We live and learn ayeI am sorry about this sad experience! I’ve also had sudden surprise losses (I guess most of us do, given enough time. But don’t give up & make small changes in your set-up. Let us hear how your next batch of eggs works out. My earliest hatch rate was only about 50% & I tried to notice what I could try next time. All the best!
I only did it as dont think they were a good brand, they were a set id bought off amazon and looked cheap so i used them up but didnt risk over using it. id found that after 2 weeks the red colour disappears and they just looked like regular bulbs so i changed out frequently. This last set are much better so ill trust more. You get what you pay forI've only done chickens, but I have never bothered with new bulbs for a new batch of chicks. As long as the bulb lights up and makes heat, I'm happy to keep using it, but I do keep a spare bulb on hand at all times. I can typically raise multiple batches of chicks with one bulb before it goes out. (Winter: two bulbs, two spares.)

Permethrin is available in either powder or liquid form, you can get it from any farm-supply store. It might be in the cattle supply section. It will kill lice and mites and is safe for use on chickens, their bedding, and the coop and nests. If you get the liquid, I believe it's concentrated and you have to dilute it and then use it as a spray. Sorry, but DE really is not effective and a lot of us don't use it because it's a respiratory irritant. Good luck!whats permethrin? i have DE, could i dust them gently with that? Check to be sure the bulb is not coated with red latex. Latex off-gasses a toxic substance that is deadly to chickens, I don't know about quail. But I do know the heat lamps we get for the chickens have never faded over several years, so maybe you don't have the right kind of bulbs. Are you getting them at the feed store? Just regular tinted bulbs are not the right kind.I only did it as dont think they were a good brand, they were a set id bought off amazon and looked cheap so i used them up but didnt risk over using it. id found that after 2 weeks the red colour disappears and they just looked like regular bulbs so i changed out frequently. do they sell in the UK? ive struggled to find specifically that but found this which contains permethrin but it states not to apply to animal so unsure. I have read that after i bought multi mite DE but ive not used it yet as didnt want my young flock to get sick. Could i roll the eggs in it to kill any surface mite eggs/larvae?Permethrin is available in either powder or liquid form, you can get it from any farm-supply store.
