Lost my whole flock today!

So so sorry to read this, you must be devastated by this loss. We have a golden, and also a collie mix - and I have suspected they are responsible for the safety of our flock since they have free run of the property (we have coyote packs in the area). Reading your story, I am more convinced than ever. Those good pups get an extra treat today in memory of your golden.

Thanks everyone! We're thinking about getting a great pyranese. Trying to decide between rescue and puppy. Only concern with rescue is the cats and chickens. I'm sure it would work out with some socialization and training.

One of the feed stores near here has chick days in late February. They will have 1200 chicks, about 30 breeds. I plan on starting a new flock then. The chicks are always well protected for a few months before they free range.

It's amazing how empty the property feels without chickens wandering around or following me around.

. sounds like you need to get you a new coyote-hatin dog & bring some new chicky babies home.
my first ever babies come next week. it's the whole predator thing that has me wound up.
