"Louisiana "La-yers" Peeps"

Ladies and Gentleman.

Introducing the 1st pea chick to be hatched at my place.

I'm so excited !!!!!!!!!!!!
:weee

Terri, do you see the feathers in the last pic? I will post in the peafowl section to see what the experts will say about the color of the feathers.

He kept me up ALL NIGHT LONG. He kept chirping. I had to get him out of his brooder, put him in a knit cap and put him in bed with me. Do you know that little joker stopped chirping and went to sleep. :th I'm glad that he got some rest because I didn't.

Now it's countdown to the others hatching.

Bet he's a white one!!!
and sounds like already imprinted on you. As Jim says, get ready for constant peacock -under-feet syndrome!
Our first pea was a Mother's Day present to a schoolteacher, raised in a neighborhood running around w/the kids all summer long, then time to go back to school & Mom was a teacher & anyway, we were that "nice home in the country" -- well, she had NO idea she was a peacock; she thought she was people -- & should have the run of the house. So she was constantly underfoot as she stayed next to the back door & tried to enter the house every chance she got -- she roosted on the roof of the house, and would meet Jim when he came home & when he got out of his van to get the mail she'd fly up on the roof brackets & ride the van down the driveway to the house.
I ended up finding her a home way out in the woods w/a family who got her a mate, & she now roosts on their porch,& comes inside for treats along with her offspring!

Don't even get me started with Tractor Supply. I get the 30% Purina Game Bird Startena from Ranch Outlet. That's the only thing that I feed the turkey poults. I am stickler about getting 30% protein in the turkey babies. They look soooooooooooooo much better using 30% protein.
I thought you (perhaps someone else) mentioned something about a "Conditioner" feed for Adult peas.
So, I have the 30% Game Bird Startena and that is what I used to fill up the feeder for the pea chick. I'll have to get another bag tomorrow because the turkey poults are scarfing it down. I also use the 30% protein and mix it with the chick starter. The Marans are eating a combo blend of FlockRaiser 20% and 30% protein. I don't want to overload them too much with protein but I find that my birds do well on the combo blend.
BTW, the 30% protein is $21.00 a bag.

That's crazy!! I pay $17.20 at Clinton co-op!!!

Anyone that buys feed at Tractor Supply, PLEASE be careful and make sure that you check your feed before you feed it to your animals. In the past 2 days, I have had to return 2 bags of feed to them. The feed was left out in the rain at Tractor Supply and it had molded. There was HUGE junks of molded feed inside. Good thing that it was on TOP of the feed and not the bottom.
CHECK YOUR TRACTOR SUPPLY FEED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It's not just Tractor Supply Julie. I've gotten molded feed from Zachary Feed store before Nutrena brand!!

Hope all is well with everyone!! My incubator is finally turned off till fall!!

I ended up this go around with 19 BBS Marans, 8 (don't think ones gonna make it) Rio Grand Turkeys & 10 Guineas!!

Awwwwwwwww, what a sweet story. I will work with this pea every day and as often as possible to see what happens. I want it to be able to roam around in the yard with the other animals. I hope this one can be as tame as the one you all had.

I am hoping for white Terri. :fl

I guess the knit cap in bed with me will be it's home until he grows out of the knit cap. He is not jittery or scary at all. When I put my hand in the brooder, he comes running and pecks my hand. I am not too worried about the eating but I have not seen it drink yet. :/ I'll have to keep a close eye out.

What is the deal with all of this feed. Not rotating? Storage place not cool? Not selling it quick? Scary.:/
