Tomorrow looks like a perfect day for starting turkey havesting! I'll be plucking a couple really big toms tomorrow. I think they might be 50 pounds by now. The first of many. I hatched about 20 for the freezer this year, but will be harvesting over a few months, because I hatched thm over several months. What was I thinking?
Garilyn & Celie - thanks for the rooster recipes! We processed a few of the extra roos and pulled one out to cook last weekend. Miserable failure lol! We read up in detail about processing and curing (and I grew up in a hunting family), but didn't think to check on the differences in cooking. We oven roasted about a 4 lb bird (covered roasting pan with a little chicken stock and veggies) for about 2 1/2 hrs. The breast was tender and flavorful, but you could barely chew the dark meat lol!
What age would we have to process to be able to bake or grill the bird?
Sounds like you have a busy day. My plan was to process a couple males but I haven't done it yet. I"m not sure I want to. Too much work. :/
I just got some pics of some Sizzles I sold.....Now I'm having second thoughts about selling them! LOL Ya can't keep them all!!!!
