"Louisiana "La-yers" Peeps"

OH, my goodness! Terri, you live in Alex?

I heard someone at Petrus talking the other day about 'someone' in town that had Peacocks, chickens etc. They apparently drive by and notice them. They were there buying what else.....peacock babies. Funny if that is your birds they noticed.

Darn chicken Math!
Uh, yes.....that would be me. I'm known as "that crazy chicken lady" around here! (a title I wear with pride, I must say)! We dont' really live in town though- we are actually outside of city limits south of town but a lot of the town people come out to Inglewood's organic store & they have to drive right past our house to get there - the boys are easily visible from the road when they fan. I also teach workshops for Inglewood on 'backyard chickens' occasionally.

OK LAST CHANCE BEFORE I LIST THEM AT PETRUS & ON CRAIGSLIST! A quad of Welsummers - 1 roo, 3 hens, and a trio of Cuckoo Marans -1 roo, 2 hens -- all are 5-6 months old, just started laying, nice eggs, SQ stock, heritage bloodlines!

Also have peacock eggs ready to pop in the incubator. PM me for more info if interested! I am not online during the day right now - but I do check my messges when i come home for lunch & in the evenings -- I will be back online during the day starting next week after I upgrade my phone!

Have a good middle-of-the-week everybody!

X2.  This is the best thread on BYC imho.  LOL

x3 it really is..

kuntrygirl - one of these days im gonna have to make it by your place, I go to meetings once a month at our Opelousas store.. Bring you some figs lol.

OH that would be great!!! It would great to finally meet you. Let me know when you're in town, so that we can plan a tour over at my place. And figs????? :drool :drool My mouth is watering for those delicious figs that you all have every year.

13 meaties??? :drool I am so jealous. If I had a chicken plucker, I think that I would invest in meaties and roosters but I don't have the time to do that. :hit

Meaties mean........

Chicken Stew

Chicken Pot Pie

Chicken and Dumplings

Chicken Gumbo

Chicken and Biscuit Casserole

Chicken Salad

Chicken Tacos

Sooooooooooooo many more..... :D

Now I'm drooling just thinking about all those yummy dishes!  We actually had 20 but had done 7 a week ago.  My fingers are seriously sore from plucking last night!  LOL!  And I'm NOT complaining!!!  If I were even going to think about doing that I would just go look into the freezer :)  There is no way I could have done all that without my Superman though.  Seriously no way.

I bet that's a great feeling to know that you can go straight to your freezer and get your OWN meat from your OWN back yard. I can deal with the plucking and all but I can't "do the deed". Someone else has to do it from me after I have walked away. I haven't mastered that yet. Not sure if I ever will. :/

You sure do know your breeds. I have NEVER even heard of this breed before. I thought someone from this thread had come over and snuck in a showgirl or frizzley little monster. I looked up pics of baby chicks for this breed and BINGO. That is what it looks like. Good job !!!!! Good Eye!!!!!! :bow

Oh, I DON'T know breeds!  That is a complete coincidence that I knew that because I have that 8wk old one that came with our meaties.  I searched and searched to figure out what kind it is.  Supposedly they don't seem to like being cooped up and don't lay a ton of eggs.......so not for me.  Besides this one I have is a Rooster.  So I hope I can find someone that wants him.....soon.

I'm glad that you were able to identify it for me. I would have NEVER guessed. Looks like I have 4 of them. It looks like they are all hens. If they don't lay a ton of eggs, then I may not be keeping them either.

Where did you get yours from?

Ms Rooster Cogb, clearly your hen snuck out of your yard and went to school at Kuntrygirl's Broody Acres School of Broodiness. With her diploma from Broody Acres, she really could hatch a rock! Lol

well she must have learn a lot when she was at Kuntrygirls Broody acres 2 eggs hatched still sitting on 4 would post pic but for some reason site not letting me

:yuckyuck

:gig

Well I am proud to meet you on here! Maybe some day in person. I have friends that seriously think I am off my rocker too, just because I have chickens in the backyard.` Oh well. Imagine what they though when I told them I got the meat chickens :/ I love Inglewood and have introduced friends that can't/don't garden to it. My in-laws love to go out there and get their veggies every week. I TRY to garden my own. But every once in awhile I just have to go out there anyway and get some fresh goat milk from WesMar. I use it in my other hobby I am addicted to.......soapmaking. So much fun!

I am trying to avoid looking at the part of your post where you said that you have Cuckoo Marans! Ekk! Do they lay dark eggs?

btw my Superman used to give the best customer service for Kentwood water. Way back then he had a customer with peacocks. Now he is a military man.

It came from McMurray hatchery with my meat chickens. If I could only go back and uncheck that stupid little box ....... ((sigh)).........that stupid little booger almost drew blood last night! I went to check on him and give him greens and put in some fresh hay....etc. He came right at me and bit my hand twice.

I had to walk away. Little turd.

In to be completely honest I couldn't 'do the deed' either. I really didn't have much of a chance to even ask myself to do that though. Superman was on the ball getting the job done. I washed the bird, scalded the bird, pluck the bird, wash the bird again.....then set it on the edge of the table where he could grab it to put it on his cutting board and so on. I guess we were pushing each other and trying to beat sundown. I would do it if I HAD to I guess, but it wouldn't be easy for me.
