Are raised beds easier to work with as opposed to planting in the ground? No weeds to pull with raised beds right? Please tell me NO WEEDS! :hide

  • Using Price Look-up Codes (PLUs), the Nutshell:
  • PLU codes are four digit numbers that identify different types of produce. For example, #4011 is the code for a standard yellow banana.
  • The number 9 prefix added to a PLU signifies that an item is organic. For example, #94011 is the code for an organic yellow banana.
  • A number 8 prefix added to a PLU signifies that an item is genetically engineered (GE). For example, #84011 is the code for a genetically engineered yellow banana.
  • PLU codes and their organic prefixes are in wide use but GE codes are rare at best.

BTW, GMO is ment to be pretty and perfect, If the tomato is not perfectly round (or oval in some cases) more than likely it is not.

Every step in canning the cold-pack method

I believe it was written in 1920. It has been updated to show new canning requirements as well as the old. I love this book, but keep in mind it is a depression era book so you may need to reduce the size of the recipe depending on your needs. I have done most of these quite well and I have to say they are great ways of stretching the food.

I have that one too!

Also If anyone is interested in buying non-GMO seeds for your gardening. I discovered a neat seed club that sends out only non-GMO seed. I was a member for about 9 months and I love all the seeds they sent me. They have a fb page and a website. They also send out email newsletters. I did not renew my membership last month because I have plenty of seed. But I sure will renew it when I need more. There is more info on their website about how they work things.

The horses owner stopped by my house to talk. He's an older gentleman and was crying about Sandy. I suggested as an option for Odie (the 20ish horse). I would have the vet check him over, give him his shots, and an updated Coggins. After a "quarantine" period, if they were interested, I would bring Odie over to one of my pastures and put him with my old gelding (Star 24yrs...the BEST kids horse EVER!!) so that Odie would have some company and not be alone. I have NO interest in owning Odie, he is not rideable, I simply didn't want him to be lonely. The owner said that he and his wife would really like that idea, but he wasn't sure about his 30 or 40 yr old daughter, who I have NEVER met in 16 yrs...who I could stand right next to in Walmart and never know...who NEVER comes out to even look at the horses...

He wasn't sure she would want Odie to be off the property.. AAAGGGHHHHHH!!!!! I told him if it helped she could stop by any time she wanted. I don't want the horse, if Odie comes here, it's simply more work for me. I just thought it was the right thing to offer....PEOPLE ARE STUPID!!!!

Sounds neat. I will look into it next.
Are heirloom seeds and non-GMO seeds the same thing? I have gotten a lot of seeds from: www.anniesheirloomseeds.com and have always been pleased.
