There was frost on the ground this morning! Everyone was laughing at me because I put on a snow hat and a heavy winter jacket. lol. It was only like 55 degrees to.

I'm setting a batch now for my meaties that are arriving friday! Oh I can't wait to use Iit on the meaties to see a difference lol

Yay! It should be ready for them then. I had to sprinkle some dry on top of mine to get the to really starting it good. But I didn't start mine on it for at least a week. By that time they were used to the dry. Good Luck with your little Nuggets!

Howdy La-yers! We had frost at the edge of the field this morning. I had to break out one of my winter sweaters to wear to work. Now if only the pecans would start falling & the citrus turn! Love this time of year!

I picked my first yellow lemon! So its not far off. My blood oranges are just getting a lighter green now.

I started putting their pellets in a bowl, adding water and ACV and they love it. It's not technically germinated, but it is a mush that they love. And I still am using less feed.

That's cool! I have even started drinking a bit of water with a teaspoon of the Braggs in it. My friend swears by it and has convinced me to do it. Its now as bad as I thought it would be, lol.

Today I'm starting a bucket for Friday's chicks.
I would totally use my flock raiser but I have that mixed with 4 grains now and I am not sure about the baby baby chicks and whole grains yet. So, to be safe I'm using a bag of chick starter with these until 2 weeks.
5 gallon bucket.
12 cups or gallon size ziplock bag full of chick starter.
Add feed to bucket.
Add a glug (4 tablespoons or so) of ACV/mother.
Fill with water to about an inch above feed.
Stir well.
Come back and stir a few more times the 1st day only. Check water level. Feed absorbs it. Add water to sit above feed an inch if needed.
Put lid on bucket only half snapped closed so it can breathe.
Always bubbling for me by next morning.
This gives me 1/2 a bucket of feed.
Smaller batches ferment quicker. I have started 4 batches before, next morning bubbling away I combined them into a new large container when I did rangers, to speed it up.
I use a plastic gutter as a trough feeder and feed a scoop 2x a day. Twice a week I take the hose to the feeder and it cleans off beautifully.

When I see the bucket is down to the last 1/4 of the bucket, I add 12 cups feed (gallon baggy) and top off with water if needed. No AVC again. It's done. Stir. Feed.
I haven't been able to go back to dry yet. But my numbers are small compared to some.

It would need a lot of tweeking for huge flocks but can be done. Once a system is in place that suits the owner they will love it.

I'm going to have to read some more about FF and broilers.

When I went to check on my Broody this morning.......still no POOP!!! That means she has not been off that nest for like 36hrs! Is that normal for them to not get off the nest for that long?

Oooooooooooo. I'm not sure about that. That's a long time. So she has not eaten or drank water? How far away is her food and water from where she is setting?

Oh she is eating pellets and juicy watermelon. Bright eyed for sure! I'm about to go check again. Maybe if I just set her out for a second she will poop and then sit again.



I gently lifted her out by the water, which is literally RIGHT THERE. She drank a good bit and then turned around and got back in the box. No poop. I guess I will do the same this afternoon. But I am glad she had more than watermelon juice.
