"Louisiana "La-yers" Peeps"

I ordered my possum trap from Amazon today. Sav-a-heart type. Meanwhile next month I can buy a pellet gun like Kuntrygirl spoke about. But if the trap comes and I catch one, the 22 pistol will have to do. When Amznda and I went into the yard last night, early evening about 6:00, a possum was there. Fortunately I had locked the coops at about 5:00, but if I go somewhere in the afternoon and don't get back until 7:00 or 8:00, I am putting the girls at risk.
I know someone mentioned the best bait on here but I don't remember what it was. What is the best possum bait??
Dry cat food they and coons just love it.

We had a very peaceful afternoon and evening. The kids are feeling kind of run down and are ready for Christmas vacation already. (Me too) Hubby is out of town all weekend once again, so it is a girls weekend. My daughters little Dach/Yorkie mix "Slinkie" took over my lap this afternoon when I sat down to have a bite to eat. He is too cute. My daughter always says that he is the best Christmas present that we have ever given her. :love I got an order of new fragrances to try out today in my soaps. And since Big Daddy isn't home to distract me I had some soapy fun. Tonight I tried "Raspberry Lemonade" It smells SOOOO good right out of the bottle. I really hope that it doesn't morph at all. All the reviews are good though. I recently discovered that I really like yogurt as an additive. So this one has Tussah Silk, Shea Butter and Yogurt. Everything went together really smooth. No soapy GREMLINS TONIGHT!!! I hope those gremlins stay hiding where ever they are! I can't wait to cut this one with my new cutter! Which works like a dream, I am so pleased with it! I have some really cute pictures of my young bantams and Silkies that we took the other day that I need to upload. The funniest thing about these babies is that every single baby has feathers that stick up on top of their head. Even the ones that are only half Silkie. It really is the funniest thing ever and makes them all look so cute. I am particularly loving the Splash Silkie babies. Really, really pretty! Well, to me at least. I am sure they wouldn't be to someone who shows them, but that isn't me. I see some warmer temps in the forecast and I am sure all of the flock will love some warmer weather to enjoy. Although they really haven't seemed TOO bothered by the cooler temperatures so far. I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend!!!
Cute dog.. Love soap pics. They look delicious.

I went to the High School football final playoffs in NO, my grandson is on the UHigh team. They were undefeated for the year and took a hard loss at the playoffs. It was sad, but the coach imprinted them about the honor of making it to the finals, so the kids took it better than the parents and grandparents. Lol. This was my first time away overnight since I only had 3 young pullets. Now I have 3 hens, 2 pullets and 2 rabbits. All I could think of was Julie's nightmare. Of course this was only overnight and not nearly as many animals and tasks, and as long as they are safely locked up they really can survive one night. My 88 year old mom was to be the keeper. I gave the bunnies enough hay, pellets and water that she really didn't have to do anything with them. I raked the path to the coops so she would be on even ground. Cleaned the coops and put in plenty of food and water. I adjusted the coop locks and greased them so she could easily move them. (Easier for the raccoons and possums, too?). We did two practice runs. Gave her a head flashlight so she wouldn't have to hold one. All she had to do without fail was to lock the coops in the evening. The extra would be to open them in the morning. She called me in NO that she couldn't do one lock, but it was a two lock coop, so I literally prayed that one lock would be enough. They were fine when I got home. I went out and held and petted them like a long lost cousin. They were happy to see me (you think?). The dogs were twirling in delight upon my return. One dog needed medicine 2 times which I put into pill pockets in zip locks and labeled. The cat didn't get eye medicine, but is almost healed. Whew. I'm not sure one overnight is worth it. Well, yes it is when it's your grand kids. Anything to support my grand kids, but travel can't be a passion for animal lovers. Incompatible. Lol

I don't think anyone could have the same nightmare as me.

Thank goodness everything was fine. :)

Here are a few pictures of the babies. They are getting so big now! I am quite amused by the up turn in the tail feathers on this one combined with the fluffy head :) Its a cutie! One of the Splash Silkies and the black/smooth-Cochin/Silkie mix. Fluffy heads all around. The little Roo. We are calling him "Jazzy" He has a fair amount of Sass and has some pretty funny antics. I am going to try to get some good pics of just the Silkies on a sunny day(if we can get one!) and post them in an album or another thread.......since there are some people here who don't like them! Lol!
I'm scared of Silkies.

Morning La-yers – whew! I don’t feel like I even had a weekend. My NY friend came in & it was a whirlwind of activity. She made it home safe late last night – to six inches of snow. She said she was ready to come back, hahaha! I bet so.

We had a good time playing with the chickens and the peas and the dogs and cats. We went shopping w/my Mom, went to the Inglewood market Sat morning, had supper with my folks Sat night, and stayed up way to late! Sunday afternoon after we put her on the plane, I had to hurry & get Winnie’s column written.

And poor Jim – this morning it was -6 below in Wisconsin – he’s fixing to get on the road to Milwaukee since they’re expecting heavy snowfall this afternoon. He will most definitely be glad to be back home!

I think I want call ducks. I saw them “in real life” for the first time and they are so tiny & cute and make the softest, sweetest little ‘quack’ – they sound like toy ducks. Anybody ever have them?

When I would open the door to the garage so that my feral cats would come in and eat during the cold months, I would catch a opossum or two eating the cat food. So, I got the bright idea to put a rabbit cage (door on top) in the garage and I put some cat food in the cage. Early that morning I woke up to find 2 opossum that had climbed in and could not get out. I"m sure you know how that story ended. :) They LOVE cat food! ;)

Good luck catching yours. :fl
