"Louisiana "La-yers" Peeps"

Hello everyone, I'm new to BYC , live on the West Bank of New Orleans and am thinking about hatching out a few eggs. I would like some wyandottes; if anyone knows about some local hatching eggs I would appreciate a point in the right direction. If no locals, maybe a tip on a good online seller/shipper would be appreciated.

Well, my wife found an egg in the EEs nest box today, she said it was a pinkish/cream color, I asked her to slip down to the main house and snoop a few times for the next couple mornings and see if she can catch the layer on the nest. one more step forward in getting my breeding program under way, don't know what good it does me other than having a pink egg layer, never researched where I can go from there, I wonder what pink and blue makes, or pink and FBCMs, just no telling or how to keep pink line.?

I don't think you can breed pink. out of all the easter eggers I've had which is a lot. I've only had two..Pam

I just was reading an interesting discussion on pink egg color. I will try to find it again. Are the shells pink only on the outside? Or all the way through. Some colors are the shell itself (like blue and possibly plum) And some are color laid onto the outside of the shell (cream to dark brown). And others still are a colored shell with additional colors laid on top (like olive eggs). But if you have the genetics and found more like it that would be fun to work with. I had an EE once that laid a light brown egg. We weren't very happy with her for that, lol. But it was still a good egg.

Good morning La-yers! boy, it looked like snow here this morning - the frost was so thick on the fields. I don't care if it does rain, if it will just warm up a bit! Hoping my RIR eggs arrive today; I am ready to hatch something! We are planning our annual Thanksgiving gumbo here at work for Friday. I'm looking forward to that 4 days off next week! hey holly. My names reno, me and my gf are new to byc too. We live in metairie but she is from gretna. Go to the rose garden on the wb. A couple weeks ago they had RIR and easter eggers for 3$ a chick. Also the double something feed store on w esplinade by causeway in metairie has silver lace wyandottes

I had no idea there was still baby chicks around at this time of the year. Shreveport doesn't have them.
Okay, folks, I ate my first Cobb 500 egg today. Tastes just like the grocery store.

Give me a few days and let the fermented feed get to them and then we'll be cooking. The size is extra large and so healthy. I'm going to make it better.

Thanks for the heads up on the feed store in Metairie. I will call them and see if they have any sellers they can recommend. I will probably end up ordering some to hatch.

You cannot go wrong with our thread. We do have some much research available at our fingertips. I joined last Sept. and researched and joined conversations for months before my first birds came in late March. Killed me waiting that long, but what can you do, you know, winter? Check out the threads on deep liter and fermented feeds. Search at the top for different topics.

We have exciting news in our chicken world.

The hatching eggs are early and now should be here today.

And I have finally come across some pictures and info about crossing the black cochins with the red cochins to improve their body type. Yay! These red babies are SO stinking SWEET! I can't wait until they are old enough to start laying and get their eggs in the incubator.
