"Louisiana "La-yers" Peeps"

What we WERE going to do today:

Move the outside brooder to the grow-out pen.
Tear apart the living room and thoroughly clean, dust, vacuum & rearrange furniture.

What we ARE doing today:
I went to fix a cold drink yesterday evening & when I opened the refrigerator, everything was dripping. I grabbed one of my bator thermometers -- 48 degrees! so I pitched all the soft stuff (mayo, sour cream, leftovers, etc) grabbed boxes & moved the freezer stuff to my (already-overflowing) freezer, lugged the rest to my folks house & crammed Mom's fridge full to the brim. We did everything we knew to do & then called a repairman - it was a dead relay, so at least fixable.

this morning holding temps steady & cold so will now clean all the trays & bins & put everything back in order.

And I also went to our neighbor, Inglewood & BOUGHT eggs. That new generation upstairs better get to growing fast! I am seeing red combs appearing so hopefully the old girls will get back in the game soon.

Pouring rain here so no moving anything today - we'd sink to our knees!

All things considered, could be a lot worse!
Oh, honey, I feel your pain. Years (decades) ago I bought an OLD freezer and put it in the washroom. Then I bought 1/4 cow. Looked beautiful, all those white packages. Next thing I know, there is a smell in the house. Days old rotten meat The best I can figure out is a small white package slipped out and wedged the door open. Burned out the motor. My then husband never let me forget it.

I'll not bore you with what he thought about me buying silver at $38 on ounce and then having it plummet to $4. Several hundred dollars in a few weeks. THIS is why I never play the lottery or gamble. Wretched luck. He went by the wayside a few years later too. I thought I'd die the first couple of years.

Then I realized that I didn't like him that much after all. Never even think of him now. He was a cold man and I'm so blessed to have a good life without him. He's on his third wife now and she just had a nervous breakdown. I kid you not.

I'm sure that you probably already have some of these pages on facebook bookmarked. But I figured I would post links in case.

These are all Louisiana groups. If you don't find what you are looking for you could post what you are looking for and hopefully you will have some luck.
Thanks, I'm up out of Shreveport and we don't have anything like these at all. Bummer. But I'll enjoy reading these.

Thank you for the links Lemon.

Linda - Yes, I have but thank you. I have posted a few times, and also add an update of my small flock about every two months. I spend most of my time on this forum just reading all of the info.

I am looking at some of those Facebook groups for two chicks that I can raise and they can be ready to go out with the others by spring. I really like the Silkie and Polish but am afraid that they might get picked on by the others because of their small size.

I started with two adults and five pullets in April. One of the pullets died a few days ago. Not sure of the cause. I am looking for chicks this time, and maybe next year I will start with eggs.

AH HAH!!! That's the problem. You need to come on more often and say hi instead of just reading. Let us get to know you. We are lovely folks, right everybody?

it says the progeneration of their species will make them taste bad...whatever that means....also if the feed is high in flax they the same would apply....same thing with if the chickens somehow ate fish...that's what I have read...

also just read that it could have had a crack in the egg or the chicken could have had a disease and passed it into the egg

also the temp that the egg plays a factor as well as the ingredients....

I just spent the last two weeks in MI for the holidays. I am back home now. My neighbor called me on Monday and said that she found one of my chickens dead in the run. It appears to be natural causes, although, not sure why she died. The others seem fine. The one that died was about 10 months old. One of the three BR pellets that I bought here local. That leaves me with six. I just wish that I new what the cause of death was to see if I could have prevented it.

Now I am over worried and considering moving the six into the garage for the day to give them a chance to dry off a little. That have plenty of areas to stay dry in the coop and run. For some reason they prefer to stand in the rain and look confused, lol.

I buried here in the back yard. Maybe looking at grabbing two chicks to raise will help me feel better. She would have wanted that.

In the future if this happenes you,you can freeze your bird and ship to LSU and for a fee they will do a necropsy and send you a report. Riicrow just had one done she May be able to let you the fee and all needed to do it. Sorry you lost your her. I 'm glad to hear from you sorry it's about a dead hen. Pam
