Gota go to walmart first though :sick

I'm fine if you want to do that but I can identify those chicks by site. I'll text you later how to do it. Totally your call. Pam

Tons of marans hatching at the moment. I'm trying to get the hatch rate up. I ran dry until day 18 and filled all wells for hatch. The eggs haven't been losing enough water so I've had big chicks that can't turn well and die at hatch time without assistance. So far I haven't had to help as much but it is still an issue. I'm considering sand papering some next hatch and seeing if that helps with water loss and smaller chicks.

I made a coolerbator just in time for lockdown on the hona eggs!

Also, Pam, my hona is trying to be broody. I haven't decided if I'll let her hatch a clutch or night. It would put me in a bit of a rush to get the coop ready (they're still in the tractor) but I do f have any egg orders, so this might be a good time?

The only way Marans will hatch is dry. I was told not to add water even at lockdown. All mine hatched that way but one. Pam

I have only had them since last spring so haven't had a SH broody. It is easier if she would but the two broodies I've had would hatch a few and let the rest die. Maybe she is more maternal and will do well. I sold some eggs. I have some hatching now. Pam

Really? Thats very interesting. I had such a big issue with chicks being sticky and having to keep everything very humid at hatch that the idea of no humidity at hatch makes me nervous. So far out of the first 11 all but one have hatched. The last is still chirping so I suspect it will pip soon. This is a much better hatch rate then I previously was getting. Out of 6 eggs I would get 1 or 2 that would hatch. For those hatches I had humidity around 25-30%.

A lady set 20 of my BLRW eggs 2 wks ago yesterday. 5 were clear but the other 15 are doing great. I think the numbers are good considering they've only been laying 2 mths or less.

I would agree with you! Out of the 24 Marans 4 were clears. I have several new pullets that came into lay so I'm pleased with the numbers.

Still (not very patiently) waiting for the silver laced to start laying.

Ok...ok...ok, just putting this out there, if anyone with marans of any type would like to trade a few chicks/eggs for maybe some buff laced polish chicks/eggs (of which i have a quad of, so getting about 3 eggs every two days) just let me know :D Lol
