I'm sorry to hear about the Golden Cuckoo. I love that breed!
I'll be very interested to see your Speckled Sussex.
My Coronations are laying pretty steady although I haven't hatched very many chicks yet. I have lots of eggs in my new cabinet incubator so hopefully I'll be overrun with chicks soon.
The Silver Sussex I bought are almost all roosters. I'm praying that out of the 11 there are at least 2 hens so that I can get a trio. It's not looking good!
I'm thinking that I will probably get some more chicks or eggs.
I don't know what I have yet on the Buff Sussex. Those are some cute little chicks! Again, I'm thinking that I may buy some more chicks and/or eggs to have a good selection to choose from for my breeding stock.
That really sucks on having all roo's!! It's almost how it always turns out! How are you liking your cabinet bator?? Hope your hatch turns out well.
Well, I have 3 GCM hens. I had a roo too but culled him Saturday. He was the "special" one. All of these came from Pasofino farms in Texas. My buddy bought and hatched these out. I had one female and he had the 2 others. Well one was way to loud he said so I ended up getting that one. Then his neighbor called the SO about the noise and I got the last one. The only problem with them though is their egg color. They don't even come close to even the lighest egg on the marans egg color chart, but their beautiful birds! Maybe I can breed this new roo to them, raise some and see what kind of egg color I can get. Anyway it'll be awhile for even that since this little roo is only 4 weeks old!!
As far as the SS go, I bought the Standard of Perfection book so I know what to look for when the time comes to try to pick the best of the best out of them. I have 18 and believe I have at least 6 to 8 roo's. What is your opinon on the amount of roo's?? How many would you keep?? I'm torn on that. I have 3 different set from 3 different breeders. 5/8/5
So far, I'm loving my cabinet incubator. I won't know how the hatches are going for some time yet because I had lots of eggs that were kinda old that I put in the incubator. As I transition to fresh eggs I'll have a better feel for how my hatches are going. I love the electronic digital display on the outside.
I want to buy the Standard of Perfection book too. Do you have an ISBN for the book? I am transitioning to Exhibition/Show Quality stock and plan to breed everything to the standards.
On the roosters, I'd definitely keep two in case something happened. If you have the space, it wouldn't be a bad idea to grown out three and see which two you like the best.
