just checked on teh girls and they are all cuddled up with each other and the tarp pooled a little bit and yes i am glad i took ya'lls advice it worked out great! I think i will need to put a over hang on the screen neer the roof, a little bit of water ran down the inside of the walls but nothing serious.

So I had a question for those that raise turkeys... But it kinda got blown out the water with these Easter Eggers.

Okay so let me see if I can explain this with confusing myself.

I had 5 turkey eggs come from Hillsboro, IL. All made it fine and progressed as they should. Their on lockdown now, hatch day is tomorrow and as of this afternoon one had already pipped.

Then I recieved 12 from Arkansas. All 12 of those are progressing as they should and went on lockdown a couple days early. Their hatch day is Friday.

Also put 14 Easter Eggers on lockdown that I recieved with 23 Turkey eggs. Out of 15 eggs only 1 was clear. As of this after noon 11 had hatched. ALL the 23 turkey are progressing. Not a clear one in the bunch.

First I've never had such great hatch with shipped eggs ever... So I was just curious if it was just the turkey eggs that were hardier that chicken eggs but with having so many of the Easter Eggers I'm thinking that eggs coming Arkansas has an easier trip. But that doesn't explain the ones coming from IL. Anyway I'm just excited their all doing so well!! Also could it be that I'm using the Sportmans now??? I know one thing I LOVE this incubator! Would spend the money to buy another one in a heart beat!!

So, what are your opinions???

I just got some eggs from someone in Georga. I had them in the incubator for 14 days then brought the incubator to a school and set it up. 10 out of 12 eggs hatched for the kids and that's real good for shipped eggs. Julie, as far as what I have read, the only difference between Turkey eggs and Chicken eggs is the number of days when your incubating them. So it should not be a problem to have both in the incubator at the same time. However on a Sportsman incubator there is a hatch area on the bottom. So you just move the eggs down to the bottom when they are ready to go into lock down. The chicken eggs would be moved down on day 18 and the turkey eggs on day 26 or whatever it is. I run two incubators to basically do the same thing with chicken eggs. I just make sure that I set eggs at least 4 days apart so that I'm not trying to add eggs in the lock-down incubator while eggs are in there hatching. Chris

Yes I do. Like Chris said as long as the eggs incubate at the same temp your good. Both the chicken and the turkey eggs had the same lockdown & hatch .date. The ones I put on lockdown 2 days early had a lockdown date of today. Just didn't wanna have to open it and add eggs while others are hatching.

Well I can't speak for shipped eggs, but I have found that my turkey eggs have the best hatch rate of all my fowl. I thought it was odd too! Glad to see someone else noticed!

Well I can't speak for shipped eggs, but I have found that my turkey eggs have the best hatch rate of all my fowl.  I thought it was odd too!  Glad to see someone else noticed!

I surely can't help with any opinions or answers on incubating in an incubator but I'm glad to hear that the eggs are doing great.

Here are some terrible pics of the Maran chicks that have hatched so far. I had a hard time trying to get a pic of them in that incubator. 10 out of 24 have hatched so far. We'll see how many have hatched when I get back from work.

My GNH pullets have started up laying this past week. Chris I just put a breeder male in there with them this mornin', so in a month or so I shall be setting eggs to hatch out of them. I can't believe I'm finally at this point, seems like its been forever getting here and the anticipation has been killer.LOL

Ok. I was curious as to how that would work.

I was thinking about this on the way to work this morning and it would be really simple for you to do both at the same time. If your only using the one incubator and you want to do them both (turkey and chicken eggs) at the same time, just put your turkey eggs in a few days earlier ( I don’t remember how many days it takes for turkey eggs but I think it’s 28) then when you put your chicken eggs in the incubator. Do it so that they all go into lock-down on the same day like Missy did. This way you won’t have to worry about opening the incubator while you have chicks hatching. Go into lock-down and open it back up a few days later when all eggs have hatched.
