"Louisiana "La-yers" Peeps"

Yea, I hope so. I only bought about $250.00 worth of feed on Saturday but that didn't include the cracked corn. We didn't have room for cracked corn. I'll have to see how many bags I will need for an entire month with the Petrus Feed. There is a rabbit breeder in Opelousas that gets his rabbit food delivered to his house. I may be able to get with him and arrange something.

If they charge a delivery fee, maybe y'all can buddy up and get your feed brought together. It might help :highfive:

You are so right about that.

Thanks.  That looks like good feed.

Just remember this an additive to thier regular layer/or grower rations or whaT ever you are feeding at the time. 14% is not enough to properly maintain good heathy chickens and them produce eggs/meat on the side. Here's the feeding directions on the product info.
On the 14% poultry maintainer:

Feed free choice to mature chickens. Keep

feeders clean and provide a source of fresh,

clean water at all times. Do not feed as a
laying ration. Additional supplementation is

required for egg production.

I use the Nutri-boost that Lonestar offers, this I use when I have my breeders in the pen breeding for hatching eggs. It sort of gives them a little boost in vitamins and nutrition for a good healthy chick to develop from.

I was going to say the same thing about the protein. I wouldn't be able to feed 14% to my birds. That's not enough protein.

Yes I agree Kuntrygirl
One should feed a minimum of 16% to expect decent layers to produce good and this should be the average protein numbers figured together as when you add in another type feed whether it be grains or the maintianer you have to average out the formula to still be 16% if you feed layer feed and grain you have to make sure the girls eat their daily amount of the higher protein feeds first or they will just fill up on their favorite feed (the grains) and not eat those ol cardboard like bland tasting pellets.

Amen to that! I feed my chickens 1/2 laying pellets (forgot the protein level), 1/2 of the 26% gamebird & add in either cracked corn in the winter or oats in the summer. (That's over 100% I know. Isn't it scary that I earn my paycheck at a CPA firm)?

In addition to free ranging a few hours every day & all the scraps etc. They all eat heartily & are healthy & lay well except when they are moulting.

Also all of mine are from "heritage" stock except for my one original Meyer hatchery Easter Egger who is 7 yrs old now. I do have some of her daughters in my flock - they all lay a big green egg. I like the variety of breeds & egg colors, but mine are just for fun.

If I use Lone Star Nutri-boost, do I need to add Oyster Shell to it for laying hens? Where can I get this near Baton Rouge? THANKS!!!
