Well, I found an alpaca for $150.00 and I also found a llama. I was really waiting to get the sheep pen (pics that I posted yesterday) ready so that I could put either alpaca or llama in with them.

I only want pigs for meat for the freezer. I want to be able to slaughter only 1 or 2 pigs per year. As soon as my "builder" (the person you met) gets the area together for pigs, I'm wanting to get 2 (male and female). I have been getting a lot of requests for starter pigs, so I'm thinking about selling babies as well. Now I have to add in my feed bill. I will have to see what Petrus has as far as pig feed. :/

We used to buy two "starter pigs" every spring & raise them & slaughter them in the fall. We were very careful never to name them & I never would go around them or feed them (or else I never would've been able to eat them)! I got involved after they were slaughtered with the cutting up & wrapping the meat. My uncle & aunt would do 2 at the same time & he had a big black kettle we'd cook up the cracklings in - they were so good!

I'm sure Greg has something there to feed pigs, if not, he'll sure mill it for you! Alpaca chow, too!
I wish we had all of our land fenced in so we could raise hogs again & a couple of calves for the freezer, too.

I'm surely hoping to find 2 starter pigs. :fl
:D
Well the powerball is $425 million. If you play and win, you may be able to shell out a few dollars and get your land fenced in.

Good morning!

I'm trying to get information out about the Acadiana District Livestock Show (Lafayette, LA, on Jan 23-26). It will INCLUDE exhibition poultry (no broilers) for the first time in MANY years! Someone from the WBR 4-H office called me yesterday to see if my son would be interested in showing. This may not be continued in future years if there isn't enough interest, so please...if you know someone in that district, let them know!

The Acadiana District includes the following parishes: Iberia, Iberville, Lafayette, Pointe Coupee, St. Landry, & West Baton Rouge. I have the entry forms if anyone is interested...they need to be submitted to the parish 4-H offices immediately.

Brandy
