Mad and Sad I lost 24 hens!

You may have to start thinking about taking those dogs down....... : / euthanizing them is probably a lot more humane than having them roam around seeking out food and causing havoc. Turning them into the shelters may lead to their demise as well...

We back filled around our coop, put blue stone around/ on top of back fill after that. I also put stepping stone blocks infront of the door. So far has worked. The guy next door just got 2 huskys for breeding and the male got loose. There was blood in the snow all around the coop where he had cut his pad of his paw. I know he went around at least 50 times. There was a lot of tracks and blood. But could not get in the yard part or the coop. They have chickens too, I'm not sure if he got any of thiers, but I know they lost some and he was really mad and asked if anything happened over here. I know when I saw all that blood and paw prints I was ready to take some dogs out. I hope you can get that dog taken care of. Hopefully you can get everything set up so they will not get your chickens. Best of luck to you!

Thanks all your kinds words. I can assure you that any stray dog around my place will have a bad day. Thanks also for the ideas regarding reinforcement around my coop. I will be making some more modifications to better protect my birds and my investment. My last thought...if you think your birds may be vulnerable act now and make them safe. Take care!!!

I feel you pain. I lost more than half of my flock to a neighbors dog a week and a half ago. Only difference, I caught the dog in my coop and he charged me. I am so sorry.

I worry about our neighbors dogs, 1 neighbor has 2, and another has 3 or something like that, i mean i have 2 but mine are small and i watch them, and they love to clean the chickens like babys.

but these are big dogs,
hubby was out working on the lawn mower 2 weeks ago, our coops are fenced in but we have 1 that is not and we let those chickens wonder but in the whole are there is a fences that we put up around all the coops, but there is a part that is not fenced in yet, well
hubby looked up and found 2 pitbulls stairing at him, ( just sitting there stareing at him), he said he was thing how to grab the dogs if he had too. he steped back becouse he was going to jump on the lawnmower to ride it back to the house it is a rideing one. Just as he stepped back he herd the neighbor calling the dogs and the dogs went jetting back over, well one ran across to the other neighbors yard, and he help him grab the dog, the dogs were actully freindly, but his heart beet fast when he saw them 2 just sitting there stareing at him in our yard too, well any way we thank god that our chickens were cooped in at that moment, becouse i am sure if they were out these 2 dogs would have had a feast in a half.
