Mad chickens......?????

They are alarm calling as you are basically being a predator and snatching their kids. Most hens who are on the nest will cackle like that when disrupted and get the whole flock going. After they leave the boxes they generally don't care, and I can collect eggs without the drama.

Gotcha. This is my first set of chickens so I'm still new to all this. I've been wanting them for he last 3 years and finally got them. I told my husband yesterday I don't think I have every really in my life seen a rooster crow. I'm learning so much from them.

:lau
I have one hen that does that and never shuts up!
My hens made a nest in a tree, lol
And when I walk by her and she is in there she screams at me!!! It is horrible sounding! Funny too.

Not at all unusual.
Most birds don't care to be disturbed while on the nest,
and will start yelling like that which can set off the rest of them.
They can all go off like that when one announces an egg whether you're there or not.
I don't believe that they think you are a predator.

Honestly, they really don't seem too upset, I'm betting y'all spend a lot of time out there so they are used to you....otherwise that girl would have dashed out of the nest and raised an even a bigger ruckus.

It's good, IMO, to be around them a lot, tho I try not to take eggs from under a bird.
If you keep observing like in the vid, one day you will see an egg actually emerge.

Ahhh yes...The drama song! If one of mine started, the rest would soon join in! And people think roos are loud and disruptive, pshh, get a flock of hens yelling all together and its crazy LOUD
