Made a hole but no zipping "PIC ADDED" pg 3

This poor chick started pipping yesterday morning and has made a hole big enough so his face shows thru but is not zipping. How long can he last in his shell? He has been like this since last night. Is there anything I could/should do?

I guess everyone is sleeping. I am going to keep my fingers crossed and hope the little guy makes it thru the night. I will be checking back in the morning. ( working swingshift really messes with your daily life!)

One day from first pip to second is not completely out of the question. Keep the humidity high, and zipping will probably take place tomorrow. (Or, rather, later today).

What would high humidity be? 70%? Or higher?

I've had a first pip 5.5 hours ago, with no progression beyond a 2mm hole in the shell and membrane.

No other eggs have pipped yet.

Most of the time babies don't zip for another 24 hours after pipping, so just relax and watch.

Ok, it's now day 2 and still the hole just shows his face. No zipping just a big round hole. Any ideas??

have you checked to make sure he was still alive??

you might ant to help him out if he's made no progress for two days

all my chicks I've hatched had from pip to zip taken about 3 hours. fast little shoots,

even the chick hatching now who is 4 days early, pipped last night, and is now almost completely zipped.

Just relax. Eggs dont read the books, so they dont know what is expected of them. They hatch when they are ready. Just do NOT open the incubator.

He is still alive. I am just afraid that he will start drying out and really get stuck.

desertlovers, I'm in the same position myself. The first chick pipped 12 hours ago, is still alive, but no zipping, just a half a cm hole. None of the other 24 eggs have pipped, this morning is day 21. I have NOT opened the hovabator, humidity is at 69%, temp 98-99. I'm trying not to stress out, but..........!!!!!!!!

I don't mean to hijack your thread desertlovers.....you've asked my exact questions. How is your chick doing now?
