Made in America?

I say name your price on that little beauty!!!!!

I have friends that beg me for them, when I tell them they range from $35 to $85 they balk. They will in turn spend that same amount on some cheap India or Chinese made "gift" at wally world. I honestly think many today have lost the fact that gifts and purchases should last or stand the test of time. Or that hand made products have a special place in the world, although our country seems to be loosing craftsman at an incredible rate. Everything the chinese make seem to be disposable or have a life expectancy far shorter then what I grew up with (shovels, tools, goods etc)

Game calls for me seems to be a bit different, most hunters want a quality call that can be a conversation piece as well as fully functional. I do see the "overseas" firearms and goods taking that market as well.....darn shame.

Its everywhere.....and we do look for American made products and do our best to buy them but the supply is so limited.

i think people need to buy American as much as possible but just try to spend less and re-use.it is so easy to buy cheap stuff rather than spend a little more for quality stuff or even try to make it yourself.
a friend of mine has started making her little girls clothes.

of course you own meat is better-definately don't want meat from mexico-no regulations or inspections.your meat from wal-mart will say product from the USA,Mexico or Canada-guess which one.

a company in the next town just closed and 450 people were laid off because the EPA has a new law.

just changing 3 things will make this country a much better place and create thousands of jobs for american citizens-
severely decrease their power-
EPA-we will open factorys back up- thousands of jobs
OPEC-we will drill-thousands of jobs
ACLU-we can hire hard working Americans

We bail out GM with Tarp 2 and guess who just spent $154 million on a plant in Mexico. Yup GM.

Manufacturing has left the USA because of:

Taxes
the EPA
OSHA
Obamacare
Corrupt Unions (not all are corrupt... but most are)
and the rest of a million regulations.

I seriously try to buy American when I can, but I feel sorry for American Manufacturers because of all of the government regulations and taxes, they have to pass on the high cost of manufacturing on to the consumer.

I'm a big label-looker now, too. I found rubber boots made in the US - Northern. I got mine from QC Supply. They're great for warm-weather wear. If I can't buy American I at least look for products made in the country of origin, which is still hard to find. I don't know if Birkenstocks are still made in Germany, but way back when I got mine, they were, and they've lasted and lasted. I think that any company that makes its own products is going to be of higher quality, in general. There are certainly exceptions to that. I also think that any company whose name includes a state or American or USA should be ashamed to have their products made overseas - like Georgia Boot. That seems like blatant trickery. I do think Vermont American still makes their products in the US. Horse products were usually a good bet to be made in the US but that's less and less the case now. At least there are many items that are produced by smaller businesses which are still made here.

There are so many thoughtful and well-articulated posts on this thread, free from rabid rants. How nice to find a group of people who can have conversations like this, whose comments don't make one wince. Now if we could just take over the country....

I'm all for buying U.S.A. made, but financially my wallet isn't. So I do this:

Make my own candles, soaps, shampoo, laundry soap, quilts, flannel sheets, go barefoot whenever possible (cuts down on shoe cost and I hate shoes anyway!), grow as much of my own food as possible (I'm sad we can't have backyard cows and goats), practice the philosophy of "Use it up, wear it out, make it do or do without." We make quite a few of our own arts and crafts supplies as well - beads, play-doh, crayons. Still trying to figure out how to make paper with dryer lint though, LOL!

We try to live BELOW our means so that when we can afford something of quality that is USA made I can get it!
