I'll be honest; I used to hate muscovies and think they were the ugliest thing in the world. That was until I got my first muscovy and fell in love with the breed. Unfortunately, my last two muscovies were taken by a fox early last year, and I haven't gotten any new ones. However, here are some pictures of them nesting together.

That's to bad that the fox got them! :hit
I REALLY like the lighter colored one. It kind of looks like a Lavender Muscovy. I don't have any Lavender Muscovies of my own, but I think they are really pretty. Maybe I will get some in the future.

Yeah, that was a bad day. They were in an outside cage, but they'd been in it for weeks before the fox got them. Then I went out and found what remained of the one and the other completely gone. That same day, my favorite chicken also passed away, so I was pretty upset. Thankfully, we got rid of the fox, but it was still really depressing. Needless to say, nothing's been allowed to stay in an outside cage all night since.

The lighter one was my favorite of the two, though I liked them both. I would like to get more, but they take up a bit of room, so I might just have to satisfy myself with calls. Maybe someday when I can make some more pens.

Muscovies are the only breed of duck I own. I enjoy their overall largeness, from their size to their personality. I have two drakes and four ducks and when a new coop is built I will be adding more females.

A long time ago before I even had Muscovies, a fox came and ate almost all my chickens. I was pretty darn mad. My dad finally found the fox and got rid of it. Thankfully, now we have a guard dog and I don't have to worry too much about anything getting into my birds. The guard dog is really good she even helps keep away the owls and hawks.

Those are very nice Muscovies! I also don't have any other ducks, just Muscovies! They are so perfect I don't need other ducks!

Some Muscovy questions... do those of you who free range always lock them up 100% at night? Mine are being brats about it as of late and last night I had to go grab some in the dark to throw into their shelter.

I have 12 Muscovy that free range during the day on our 30+ acres but in reality they stay in the closest 5 acres.

I bought discounted straight run ducklings and I got 10 drakes to 2 hens. They’re just now reaching breeding age and chaos is ensuing for the group dynamics but no injuries yet, just lots of hissing and butt grabbing. They have lots of space and 2 kiddie pools so I’m sure that helps diffuse tensions and territorial disputes.

In 2 days I have plans to get 8-12 more hens and send off about 6-7 boys to the freezer camp/sell off buuuut is there anything I can do to help keep the peace until the new hens’ quarantine period is up? Also can’t get the boys into the butcher ASAP.... but a few of the ones being super aggressive have been catalogued as dinner.

Also, hello fellow ‘scovy crew!
