I finally got caught up! WHEW!!! Sorry to say but I got a head start... I've been planning on putting my own EE's eggs in with some Lav Orp eggs that I was going to buy.. Well, I've started saving my EE's eggs but I had the chance to get 10 Lav eggs for $25 so I jumped at the chance... I saw the auction on Ebay and asked her if she would be willing to close the auction and since she didn't live too far from me, I would pay her $25 cash plus $5 for the inconvenience... She agreed and now I have 10 beautiful Lav Orp eggs in the bator on day 2 with a hatch date of April 4!!! I also have about 50 eggs that will be going into lockdown on Sunday... With the sale of those chicks, I plan on buying some day old Lav Orp chicks that I have lined up!

I have my 3 main coops/pens done now and 2 small coops done.. Now I just have to put a run on the second small coop!

I hated that I had to start the Lav Orps early but I am soooooo EGGcited to finally have them!!!!!

Just read the cleaning instructions in the leaflet that comes with the incubator. It does say not to submerge the yellow bottom piece. And I yell at DH for not reading instructions!

Anyway, I like soaking it in bleach water so next time I will just take it apart. Yeah I had to wipe the rust off the metal weight on mine too Daisychick. So glad I took it apart to see before I set CC's eggs in it. I don't think that anything nasty could get into the bator from there, but I wouldn't want to take the chance. Kathy, if you just did this today, you will be fine after you take it apart and let everything dry out. So glad I posted about it, sounds like a lot of us didn't read that part of the manual.

It was hot enough in the run today that almost all of the chickens went into the shaded coop.

Shucks. Summer is coming. Think I'll see if I can handle a dip in the pool tonight before bed. Last year I didn't go all the way under until March 31st.

On a good note though, my broccoli is really growing and I'll start harvesting in about two weeks. Also, my romaine lettuce is really looking tasty... I'm pouring the water on it now that it's over 85 and I should have some delicious lettuce soon. I sometimes just pick it and eat it right there in the back yard. I'm like a big grazing cow.....

C'mon April 2nd... I wanna set some eggs!

Happy news:

After last-night's egg-ssicare I came home to 3 hatched chicks out of the remaining 6 eggs. I will give the remaining 3 eggs until tomorrow before I start poking at them.

SO--my singleton has 3 brooder-mates to keep him happy! YAY!
