Mahonri's 2nd Annual BYC EASTER HATCH. Post pics of your chicks!

I wanted Emu's, DH said "no" too dangerous around the kids.

He bought me two Nigerian Dwarf goats instead. Love them but I L-O-V-E Emus. Post lots of pics so I can have some vicariously through you!

I am hatching these emus for someone who is 'allowed' to have them.
I can only have goats if I trade in the cats

(he was joking... I think)

When I told him I'd take care of the baby emu for the first few weeks, but that it would need to stay in the house where I could keep an eye on it, and that it would wear a diaper so that there wasn't emu poop all over the floor.... Well, he looked thoughtful for a minute and then said, "Who's house will you be living in during that time?"

It's a shipped egg. I sure hope it hatches. The first one started and then failed

Third time's the charm, though, right?

Anyway, there will certainly be a LOT of photos, when little Esmerelda hatches....

1 more chick popped out right before bed---and this morning there was one with a definate pip.

So 40+ eggs due on the 15thwere killed by a jackhammer, but the 6 eggs due a few days later weren't affected? Perhaps they were at a less "fragile" point in development? As it stands, it looks like I'll have 5/6 (or maybe 6/6) hatching. What the french toast?

Were these all shipped eggs?
Or homegrown?

They were all from my Aloha breeding pen.

Which makes me mad, because I had to kick them out of that pen. Even if i re-pen them all tonight, I don't think I will be able to collect enough "fer-sure" fertile eggs for the Easter hatch.

So instead, I am pitter-pattering around in the auction section.

Yup. Fine line between now and set day for being sure of purebred fertility.

I am

from the auction section. Especially since right now 0/26 shipped eggs are hatching. They were due to start hatching yesterday

Sorry about your 40+ eggs, but excited you were able to get 5/6 or maybe 6/6

even after all the jackhammering. Either they were at a less fragile point or they are going to be some really strong chickens.
