Thanks to all who have prayed for Mike. His surgery is on April 21st, but they will be doing a cath the day before. They are estimating a 10 day recovery period, meaning we'll be home somewhere around the first of May. If all goes well.

Mike was born, in Vietnam, with a series of heart defects. (Tetralogy of Fallot complicated by pulmonary atresia.) We had it corrected at Mayo when we brought him home. He did great until he developed a systemic infection in 2006, that settled in the gortex patchwork (from his correction) in his heart and nearly died. He was life flighted to San Antonio from NM, and spent 2 months in the hospital. I was with him and the rest of the family was here in NM. It was hard.

At his last check up they discovered that his aorta was seriously enlarged and this surgery is to reduce the aortic root and stabilize it. If he needs a homo-graft replacement or anything else, they will take care of it then. Mike is handling the whole thing very well.

(Mama, however, is a bit of a wreck.)

Thanks again, from the bottom of my heart.

Well who knew even a beautiful cute silkie could be such a vicious attacker?... lol I put three of my eggs from my incubator under my broody silkie hen. She tried to tear my skin off my hand, until she noticed that I had eggs then she took them greedily

I think she could cover six of them well, but I want to make extra sure she will stay now that I traded golf balls for real eggs. I noticed that one of my cochin hens is trying to hop aboard the broody train as well. Is it safe to keep her in where I have the silkie hen and her nest? I've never tried hatching eggs the natural way before. Any advice?

Broodies are crazy. My NN was such a sweet broody. Now I have a Rouen duck broody and MAN is she nasty!!!! I can't get within 2 feet of that nest before she comes flying off hissing and poofed up twice her size.
