Ha ha, I got some with the brand name Smite- much easier to order!

News: I knew they'd be early, got two ducks nearly out. Am really not impressed, they are only on day 24. Will post pics when in brooder to prove it. They should have been Tuesday or Wednesday at least. Well, never mind. More fuzzbutts!

Just ordered a new incubator, looking forward to trying it out. (From custom incubators, takes my egg turners from my styrofoam incubators, cabinet setup.) Feel it'll be easier to maintain than my 2 styrofoam incubators (a little giant and an hovabator). I'll keep them as potential hatchers, if needed.

Plan to build one of those double decker broodie house/brooders if I can figure out where in the past 5000 posts those plans were. Think that'll be my Sunday project.

Got to get some larger accomidations for this hatch, it's much larger than my previous ones (or at least hope it will be).

Just got in some Welsh Harlequin duck eggs, having decided on my duck research that they sounded like the duck for me. 10 eggs, wish me luck.

OK, off to update the Stinkeye photos page. The contest will be officially starting soon!

I just checked my incubator that is due tomorrow and I have three pips! They are buff orps from our own eggs that my boys are hatching and raising to sell at the Farmer's Market where they sell eggs. They can't technically sell them there (no live animals sales)...but plan to take representative chicks this summer in a small cage (when the chicks are feathered out) and hand out business cards. lol

I have candled half a dozen eggs in my DH's homemade incubator and everyone of them was developing. This is a trial hatch to see how it does and to be honest, I have been skeptical of how it will do.......if we get a 50% hatch rate, that will be 63 chicks!

Mrs.brown :

My chicks were supposed to hatch on Thurs. But now ones hatching but won't open its eyes. What do you think is the problem?

Is it still in the shell or has it gotten out and just laying there?

It is hard to say, it may just be tired. Hatching is hard work! How long has it been trying to hatch?

There is a chance that it is still absorbing the last of the yolk sac. I had a Delaware chick that was like that and I figured it for dead by morning, when low and behold, it was all absorbed and out running over the other eggs.

Did he get his head out all by himself?
