Mahonri's 2nd Annual BYC EASTER HATCH. Post pics of your chicks!

Quote:
partly in partly out. head is out. body is in.Its been trying to hatch the whole day and last night. Its eyes have been closed the since it has been trying to hatch

There is a chance that it is still absorbing the last of the yolk sac. I had a Delaware chick that was like that and I figured it for dead by morning, when low and behold, it was all absorbed and out running over the other eggs.
Did he get his head out all by himself?

No, I had to help

Okay. Was he real bloody? He may not have been ready and he "may" have bled out a little and is really weak now. Or, he might not have been going to make it out anyway. Some times they just don't, for whatever reason.

Have you read the sticky at the top of the Incubating and Hatching Eggs forum? Lots of good info in there about When and If to intervene with a hatching chick.

As with anything worthwhile the best way to understand something is to try, learn some more and try again. I can't begin to tell you how many problems I encountered when I was learning to incubate. I do just about everything differently now, or have at least modified my technique!

I am sorry about your little chick. I wouldn't give up all hope for the rest. Let the others alone and keep your temps and humidity stable and give them a few more days.

Hoping for the best for you and your eggs,

Deb

Thanks for the advice. Should I open the egg? He did bleed a little but now he is really weak.

Well Hurley, you have the legacy of my Iowa Blue flock in your bator. Their parents were wiped out by dogs today. I have no idea how they got in but the flock is gone except for the dark roo I had separated and one lucky hen. I'm REALLY hoping you have a good hatch now!
