Mahonri's 2nd Annual BYC EASTER HATCH. Post pics of your chicks!

I'd just let him be. If he dies open him up then and look at the stuff left in the shell. You will see the yolk sac if it is still unabsorbed. It will help you understand the process if you look at the unhatched or dead in the shell chicks. If you have eggs that stopped developing at different times in the process (early quitter, late quitter, pipped and died, never pipped, but dead in the shell....) you can begin to troubleshoot the causes.

Here is the link to the info I mentioned earlier: https://www.backyardchickens.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=48726

Good
luck! Let us know how the rest of your hatch goes. Don't be discouraged!

Oh, that is so sad to hear. Absolutely sickening. Do you still have the 5 chicks or did you sell those?

I will certainly be happy to send back chicks from the eggs you sent me. Hopefully they will hatch this weekend, got 21 developing!

I've also got 10 coming from Sandhill hopefully this month. Can call and ask if they can add more to the order if you wish.

Thank you so much for so much helpful advice.Unfortunately I will only have 3 left if he dies.

Well, my advice would be to study a lot more, read as much as you can. Post to the Where am I, Where Are You forum and find other folks who are near you and ask their advice on how THEY incubate. I am in the dry desert southwest and where I keep my humidity level wouldn't be right for someone who lives where it is humid.

If your temps are too low they will hatch later than the 21-22 day norm, too warm and they may hatch early. What type of incubator do you have? That will also effect the way your eggs hatch.

Get on BYC here and ask, ask, ask....there are many experts on here who will help you out and answer your questions. Be succinct and specific. No question is too "dumb" to ask.

You will do better,, don't give up!
