Mahonri's 2nd Annual BYC EASTER HATCH. Post pics of your chicks!

I have a friend who bred Emus several years ago, long before I discovered I was into chickens. When HE found out I am now hatching my own, he e-mailed me and said he would have given me some emu eggs if he was still breeding them... so I immediately thought of y'all and the discussions about 'em. Other than being very large, they sure are actually .... cute!

Oh Mary! She has the cutest eyes ever!!! You will have to keep us posted with growing up pictures! I would love to see how they look as they grow! We have a lot around here but I have never seen the little ones.

NOT MINE! When we found out it was available he made me stop making a cheesecake and go get it! He couldn't leave because the DirectTV repairman was coming.

OK can someone clear something up for me please.
Lets say you start with 40 eggs and when you finally get down to lockdown and your final candling you have 20 eggs.
And 10 of those hatch, that is a 50% hatch rate right? And not a 25% hatch? I saw on the last spread sheet that we were suppose to fill in the blanks for the duds or quitters before lockdown.

I didn't do that with my NYD eggs, I always count ALL of my eggs from start to finish.
